I was reminded this week of how the most important lessons usually come unplanned. I had stopped by a site to talk to a peer how a situation could be best supported. As we talked about various things, she shared some insight from a book she had been reading. Consider this thought: There is a difference between being busy and being rushed. The truth is we are all busy. But that doesn't mean we should be rushed.
When we rush, accidents and mistakes increase. This can impact our stress levels and our relationships. Yet we associate doing things slowly with inefficiency and we glorify speed. Look at the benefits of slowing down:
-increased creativity
-decreased stress and anxiety
-fewer mistakes
-more opportunities
-more productive
-experience more joy
-improved communications and better relationships
-longer survival rate
Remember the chocolate scene from the old I Love Lucy sitcom. Through humor, it illustrates how speed actually reduces productivity.
I'm looking forward to visiting & seeing the magic at Campbell, McGregor, Weaver, Westport, York, Bissett, Bowerman, Watkins and Williams this week.

I attended the National Summer Learning Association Conference (NSLA) this week. It reaffirmed how Explore! meets the NSLA criteria for effective summer learning programs: (1) expanding access to under-resourced students, (2) planning engaging curriculum, and (3) leveraging community partners to support learning is best practice.
I’m on the team that’s currently looking at the Capital Planning Request projects. Please remember to submit work orders through School Dude and do NOT use outside vendors for facility improvements.
I’ve begun recording data in Tower for the principals on my evaluation list. I’ve started my discussions around growth goals.
I’ll be visiting Disney, Holland, and Cowden next week.
