A Message from Principal Boucher
Spring Lake Park High School Families:
I appreciate the sense of community I experience on a daily basis working in Spring Lake Park Schools. I have worked in other school districts, and I am proud of how much we pull together in the face of challenges in this community.
I know families have shared in the work of supporting their student(s) learning in very different ways since COVID began impacting our community last spring. Thank you for your support and partnership as we continue to navigate this school year together.
Here are some updates for this week:
- We continue to have students at school each day. They are coming for targeted services and support as well as hands on learning opportunities for specific courses by invitation. We plan to continue this for now. We will communicate any changes if it becomes necessary – and we hope it does not become necessary.
- We are seeking additional clarity on when and how we might return safely to a Modified Campus (hybrid) model. We have asked Minnesota Departments of Health and Education for the criteria to follow in order to be able to safely return to less restrictive model. We expect to see more information on this in the coming days and weeks.
- Expect grades K-12 to be in Extended Flexible Learning (distance) through at least winter break. This is realistic given the current public health context. Any action we can take to stay safe and follow public health guidance will help us consider a return to at-school learning more quickly.
There will not be a formal newsletter next Wednesday in advance of our scheduled break. Please remember: There is no school next Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27. School will resume after the break on Monday, November 30.
For those who celebrate Thanksgiving, all of us at SLPHS extend our best wishes for a safe and fun holiday and break. Please continue to reach out to teachers or our office with your questions. Together we build bright futures!
One School. One Community. #SLPPantherProud

Tips for Successful Learning at Home
Here's our SLP Top Tips for Successful Learning at Home:
- Establish a routine to be ready to learn.
- Designate a quiet learning space for students where they can be productive, preferably not where they sleep.
- Make WebEx, Seesaw, Schoology and other tech resources easy to access. Write down codes and passwords for the work area.
- Take a break. Build exercise or refueling into the break.
- Use a bucket or a box to store daily learning supplies.
- Limit distractions by turning off cell phone and notifications.
- Keep iPads charged.
- Move items containing personal info or things you wouldn’t want others to see out of the camera range.
- Complete school work during the week; not on weekends.
- Check in with the student, academically and emotionally.
- Communicate with teachers. Connect on any questions.
- Join an online study group for students to work together.
- Remind student that schedules might occasionally change, same as how we remain flexible when at school.

SLPHS Career Exploration Month in full swing
Career Exploration month is in full swing, and although it looks very different this year, we also know that should not stop us from helping today's youth plan for their futures. All month long and into the coming trimester we will be hosting career speakers in classrooms, a full list of speakers can be found in Schoology and on our Career and College Hub website. Students also have the opportunity this month to connect 1 to 1 with career professionals during the last week of November, the sign up has been sent out to all students in Schoology.
The counseling office continues to be here to support students in their post high school planning, as well as academic success and social/emotional health. Reach out to your counselor today if your child needs support in any way.
SLPHS Picture Retake Days
Picture packets can be ordered up to 48 hours after picture day at MyLifetouch
Lifetouch pictures are used for students in grades 9-11 in Campus Portal, Schoology and Yearbook. The photos are also used for all grades Student ID cards.
Preparing students for career and college despite a pandemic
Senior Macy Smith commits to play college basketball in California
Congratulations to Panther student-athlete Macy Smith for signing her national letter of intent to play D1 basketball at California State University, Northridge next year!
“If anyone deserves to play college basketball at the highest level, it is Macy. Good things happen to players that put in the extra work to become better and that is what she has done. It has been a pleasure coaching her and I have no doubt she will be a great addition at USUN.” - Randy Eatherton, head Panther girls’ basketball coach

November 26-27 - No School, Thanksgiving Break
December 4 - School Day and End of Trimester 1
- This is the end of the trimester. We adjusted the academic calendar at the beginning of the year to move two additional days up to the front of the year for planning. This means Dec. 4 – which was originally a day off school – is now a school day. See the updated 2020-2021 academic calendar.
