Welcome to Mrs. Bacorn - Assistant Principal and Ed Tech Leader

My name is Megan Bacorn and I am so excited to be with my Mason Dixon Eagles as an Assistant Principal/Ed Tech Leader for the 2021-2022 school year. I am forty-years-old and this is my 18th year in education but my first year as an Assistant Principal and Ed Tech Leader. I have taught at many programmatic levels including 4th, 5th and 2nd grade. I have taught students with special needs in grades K-5 and 6th-8th. I have certifications in Elementary Education, Multicatagorical Special Education, Reading and Instructional Leadership. I grew up in Upshur County, WV. My family moved in 2019 to be closer to my husband’s workplace. We have three kids: Mylo is in 8th grade, Cael is in 3rd grade and Charlotte is in Kindergarten. We spend weekends going to soccer games, doing yard work and chores. We have chickens, ducks, two dogs and a cat. I can’t wait to see our MDES Eagles soar this year!

Chromebooks -- Acceptable Use Policy

Please complete the following Acceptable Use Policy online so that your child may continue to have access to their Chromebooks. Please send Chromebooks to school on the first day, they may stay at school for a few days to be updated. If you know your child's Chromebook needs repaired or isn't working correctly, please call the school and return it before school starts. The acceptable use form must be completed by August 27th.

Free/Reduced Lunch Application

All meals will be free again this school year, however because we are a Title I school our funding is dependent on accurate reporting of free/reduced lunch eligibility. For this reason it is extremely important that if your family may be eligible that you please complete the application at the following link. Many grant opportunities that provide materials and programs for our students require us to demonstrate our need based on these applications. Also, benefits for your child may be determined in part by your status such as the EBT card program used by the state last year. This application must be completed each year. Open House August 20th 6:00 - 8:00

To be as safe as possible but still allow our students and parents the opportunity to see the school and meet their teacher we will be having Open House in person, but are asking families to attend in shifts so we can avoid over crowding. Masks will be required of all staff, students and parents. As well as meeting your child's teacher we will have stations for your technology needs, to help you in setting up your Remind, PBIS and SchoolMessenger services, assist in filing a free and reduced lunch application and to pick up a car rider number early to make that first day go a little more smoothly. You will also be able to meet our new school nurse: Jennifer Hlusko, our outreach support specialist Dottie Devine and our school counselor Kristen Siers.

Teachers will also create classroom videos and a slide show on Title I services for anyone that is uncomfortable coming in person or that would like to review again for each of their children's teachers available on the school webpage. Because we know families have multiple children, teachers will do a short overview of expectations for their students and offer a short time for questions twice during these times. If you have more than two children parents can split to attend sessions at the same time or you are welcome to attend in an additional time spot if needed. To allow for social distancing, please limit adult attendees to two adults per student.
