Gearing Up to Say Goodbye

We've got this! While I have a mix of feelings about not being together to say goodbye this school year, I know that parents, students, staff, are ready for a break and a chance to "unplug." Here are some things to keep on the calendar in the next couple of weeks:

  • Monday, June 1st -- NO SCHOOL/REMOTE LEARNING
  • Monday, June 8th -- Drive Thru Parade at New Trier campus
  • June 10th - 12pm-3pm - DEVICE DROP OFF AT AW for Kindergarten - 7th Grade
  • June 11th - 9am-3pm - DEVICE DROP OFF AT AW for Kindergarten - 7th Grade

Dr. Osburn has been communicating additional details about device drop off and the parade via email. Check your inboxes to be sure we're all on the same page. I can't wait to see you all -- even if it's just a passing glance. ❤️

Avoca West's office will be open for registration documents on Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:00-11:00. The drop box is available in the foyer as well for those parents who wish to drop off school fees.

Remote Learning and Upcoming Report Cards

Report cards will be mailed home on Monday, June 15th. As previously shared, they will look quite different from our typical report card that captures progress from the entire school year. Rather, this remote learning progress report for parents will share about your child's progress in those essential outcomes that were prioritized during remote learning. There will also be a spot designated for what students/parents might consider tackling over the summer to continue learning. Attendance will not be a formal portion of this semester's report card.

Core, Encore, and Strings teachers will be emailing home snapshots of what was focused on during remote learning at your child's grade level (or sections level for strings).

A remote learning team will be getting together this summer to consider how we can improve remote learning should we need to continue remote learning in the fall or anytime in the future. Stay tuned for updates! Many thanks to our parents who were able to join Dr. Osburn to provide input for things you'd like to see us consider!

A Pick-Me-Up for YOU!

A friend of mine sent the bookThe Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy to me a few weeks ago and it has held a place in my mind and heart for each day that has followed. As I've read oodles of children's books and chapters of books during this time for our kiddos, I read this one for YOU and for our staff. I hope you'll enjoy it...and gift it to yourself and to anyone else who needs it. Even my grumpy 15 year old daughter said it made her smile, cry, and just feel a little bit better. #parentwin
