Finish Strong!
Time seems to have flown by lately and today we find ourselves only two weeks away from the end of semester 1. Please make sure to read carefully through all of the information below pertaining to final exams and upcoming events. January is a busy month for the junior class as we will be planning out senior year schedules and we have our junior parent night at 7 pm on January 9th.
Please make sure to mark your calendars for this important event in the auditorium as we discuss everything related to planning for success in the senior year. We will send out more specific information as we return from Winter Break.
I hope that everyone has an enjoyable holiday season and please don't hesitate to contact me if you any questions or concerns!
Sincerely,

Updates from the Guidance Department - Mrs. Frazer
Second Semester Schedules
Second semester schedules are set and will be available via PowerSchool on December 18th. As a reminder, schedules are set for the year and changes are extremely limited per our student handbook/program of studies guide on the guidance web page.
SAT/ACT testing
Students will have an opportunity in January to take a College Board sponsored SAT study, that will consist of a sampling of SAT testing materials. This in-school study will help to serve as a practice for students looking to take the SAT in the future. Any student wishing to participate in this study needs to stop by the Team 2019 office and sign up by Friday, December 8th.
We encourage all potential college bound students to complete an SAT and ACT test during their Junior year in preparing for college applications next year. You must sign up in advance at collegeboard.org and/or ACT.org Most students take the February 10th ACT and the March 10th SAT, but there are dates later in the year outside of Brownsburg if there is a conflict for those dates. We encourage you to register for these exams BEFORE Christmas break as they are first come/first serve. If your student has any trouble with the website registration, you will need to call customer service for assistance as we do not have access to their accounts at BHS.
College visits
We encourage all juniors to visit a college campus of interest this school year. Christmas Break/Spring break are good times to get in a visit without missing school. You must sign up for an official college tour at the colleges’ website in advance of your visit. Students may miss up to 2 school days this year for a campus visit.
21st Century Scholars
As a reminder, to remain eligible for the scholarship, in addition to a 2.5 cumulative GPA, students must complete college readiness requirements and log them on their scholar track account. For junior year students must search for scholarships (in Naviance), take and SAT or ACT exam, and complete a college visit. Please have them log their activities at www.in.scholars.gov. Please contact Mrs. Frazer with any questions.
If you have questions on any of these topics please reach out to Mrs. Frazer (rfrazer@brownsburg.k12.in.us)
Semester 1 Final Exams
Reminder:
In order to maintain the integrity of the testing environment, we will not be able to call into/or interrupt a classroom to get a student. Please do not schedule appointments for your student on December 14th or 15th. Students are expected to remain in their classrooms for the duration of each period.
If you have any questions about finals please make sure to contact Mr. Poliskie.
Updates on Academics - Ms. Burke
Preparing for Finals
As we approach the end of the semester, it is important for your student to begin preparing for his/her final exams. Encourage your student to pay close attention in class on review days, or to arrange transportation if your student’s teacher offers review sessions before or after school. The final exam counts for 20% of your student’s grade in each class.
Finishing the Semester Strong
As of today, we only have 10 days left in the semester. If your student is struggling in any class, please work with your student to complete any missing assignments, arrange time for help with a teacher, and stay on top of current assignments. If you have any questions or concerns about a class your student is struggling in, please reach out to Ms. Burke at sburke@brownsburg.k12.in.us.
Parent Meetings
It is our goal this year to have meetings with all parents on Team 2019! Please don't hesitate to reach out to us about specific concerns/questions you have that we could meet about, or simply to meet and discuss the plan for the next two years of life at BHS. You can contact Mrs. Matherly to set up a meeting with any team member or contact any of the team members directly.
Updates from the front desk - Mrs. Matherly
Reminder of Lanyard Costs
Our daily practice of wearing lanyards and IDs causes a lot of wear and tear. Now may be a good time to purchase a new lanyard or ID as we head into this second semester. Please have your student see Mrs. Matherly in the Team 2019 office. Lanyards may be purchased for $2, IDs may be purchased for $3.
Our Team Office is Moving
Construction at BHS is progressing and as of Tuesday, January 2nd, our Team office will be located in the same area as Teams 2020 and 2021. Our phone numbers will remain the same. We will remain there through the end of this school year, then move to Senior Academy.
Student Health – Immunization Requirements
With Winter Break approaching, we wanted to send you a reminder about immunization requirements set by the Indiana Department of Health for your student’s senior year. You have lots of time to take care of this requirement, but since it was added in 2014, it sometimes catches parents by surprise.
For current 11th grade students to enter the 12th grade, you must have a second dose of the meningococcal vaccine (new requirement in 2014) by the first day of school, August 2nd, 2018. BHS will be looking for an updated immunization record or appropriate paperwork at the beginning of the next school year.
If you have any questions, please contact your family physician or the BHS Clinic.
