Alpha Kappa Psi- Beta NUsletter

October 2015

Welcome back to our Beta NUsletter! As much as I would like to take credit for the new and improved name, Justin Darnell was the clever mind behind it. As mentioned previously, this newsletter, along with all subsequent letters, will recap what happened over the past month. The month of October was filled with community service activities, fundraising events, and brother bonding! Below you will find our schedule for the rest of the semester, as well as community service, fundraising, and social events. This will be included in all future newsletters and will be updated as needed. Alumni are welcome to ANY & ALL events.

*If you are interested in speaking to us, please email me ( or our Vice President, Aspen Ruane (! We would love to have more alumni speakers.

McAllister's Night Recap

On September 30, we had our first McAlister's Night of the semester. Although a check for this fundraising event has not yet been given to us, we had over 100 in attendance - 48 members, 7 pledges, and 55 non-members. Everyone had a great time studying, socializing, and bonding over great food.

Founders' Day Celebration

On October 8, 2015, the Beta Nu chapter celebrated Founders' Day, as Alpha Kappa Psi's 111th birthday was on October 5, 2015. Alumni Molly Janak also spoke to us about key concepts for millennials in the workplace. After finishing up her message, I presented on our organization's history. We celebrated with cake and socializing to close the meeting.

The Big Event

On October 10, Beta Nu helped at one of the biggest volunteer events hosted by the University of Wyoming. Thirty-four members showed up to help with various service projects. These projects ranged from filling pot hols on streets to helping a family build a tree house in their front yard. Beta Nu had one of the largest groups in attendance as the events and everyone finished their projects with smiles on their faces!

Midcourt Interviews

Midcourt interviews were held on October 15. The pledges have now completed two quizzes and are looking strong and capable of carrying on the good name of Beta Nu. If any alumni are ever interested in being part of either inductions or initiations, please let us know. It would be awesome for potential new members to witness the "for life" aspect of the fraternity early on. The Master of Rituals is Sara Ott ( We are looking forward to Court of Honor interviews on November 5.

Cloud 9 Day

Cloud 9 Day was held on October 21. We tallied about 75 participants - the building was packed and everyone had a great time.

Halloween Social Meeting

On October 22, Beta Nu had the opportunity to hold a Halloween-themed social meeting! With lots of laughs and brotherly love, we were able to gather most of the chapter and enjoy the festivities. Pumpkins were painted, carved, and even bedazzled! Other brothers got to enjoy the movie Halloweentown and play games like Cards Against Humanity and chess. At mid-semester, this was the perfect way for brothers to bond and relax!

-Meg Weldon, Brotherhood Chair

Ghost Tours

On October 23, eight current members and one alumni attended the Ghost Tours of Laramie. This event has been one of Beta Nu's annual traditions. The ghost tours consist of a haunted house, a historical hayride through downtown Laramie, and a tour through the Wyoming Territorial Prison. It was a great event to bond as brother and take a brake from the grueling midterms.

SafeTreat is an event held in the Union at the University of Wyoming, and this year it was held on October 30. Its purpose is to allow children to have a warm and safe environment to trick-or-treat in. Beta Nu got together and painted children's faces while passing out hundreds of pieces of candy! In honor of the new movie, our table's theme was Charlie Brown, and we offered face paintings as well as candy. All of the members got in tough with their artistic side as requests for designs ranged from butterflies to cats to Superman's symbol. This event was a bunch of fun and a perfect kick of to the Halloweekend!
