7th Grade DNA STEM Activity
Lenape 7th grade science students created a 75ft (22.86meters) DNA strand reinforcing their knowledge that DNA is the genetic material for all living things. The modeled DNA strand was created by using paper to represent the four biochemicals (adenine, thiamine, guanine, and cytosine) that pair with each other in a specific pattern, making a double helix. Students learned that certain DNA sequences code for specific characteristics. One gene usually contains 10,000 to 15,000 base pairs!

We met with all 8th grade students on Wednesday to assist them with elective selection. We will communicate the process for course verification by February 23rd, when the verification window opens. Parent verification of courses is due by March 1st.

Middle School Orientation
If you have an incoming Lenape 7th grader, please join us for a parent orientation to middle school on Thursday, March 3rd starting at 6:30 PM in the Lenape Middle School auditorium.
We know that the transition from elementary school to middle school is both exciting and nerve-wracking! This orientation is your opportunity to get a general overview of Lenape and a feel for what it will be like for your student as they transition to middle school. There will be time for a Q&A at the end of the presentation.
Footloose!
The Lenape Players are proud to present this year’s spring musical, “Footloose!” “Footloose” is based on the 1984 movie of the same title which tells the story of a Chicago teen (Ren) and his mother who move to the small farming town of Boumont. Although prepared for the inevitable adjustment to a new high school, Ren is not prepared for the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing as instituted by the local preacher. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. With the help of its Oscar and Tony-nominated Top Forty score, Footloose celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people while guiding them with a warm and open mind.
Footloose will be presented on March 10th and 11th at 7 PM and on March 12th at 2 PM and 7 PM. Tickets to Footloose can be purchased online beginning Feb. 6th. Tickets will also be available at the door. All tickets are reserved seating.

Helpful Resources
Guidance "Sparks"
In a recent article by psychologist Louis Tay, he states, “Don’t push your children toward skills just because they pay well. Financial success is only one dimension of a fulfilling life.” Teaching our children to understand and value money can be a challenge in our world especially when we consider what is “needed” and what is “wanted”. As part of our Career Education Program through the District’s Success Plan (Smart Futures and Naviance), we provide lessons and resources on various topics including “How Money is Used” in the primary grades, to budgeting, financial literacy and entrepreneurship in the secondary grades. These are important lessons to help your daughter or son see a path to their future goals and a means to attain those goals. Ask your student to log onto these platforms and show you what they are learning.

Safe2Say
Safe2Say is a valuable resource that has been set up by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to provide a method for anyone to report a concern about a student or group of students 24/7. Please note some important reminders about the use of Safe2Say:
- If you put in a tip, please check back often for communications. The tip line is monitored 24/7 at the state level. The tip is sent to the school and/or police if it is deemed "Life Safety" immediately. It is sent in the morning if it is determined to be "Non-Life Safety."
- It is important to include as much information as possible. If you have evidence of your concerns, please share that evidence via the tip or with us. You can attach pictures and videos in the Safe2Say system.
Please remember that Safe2Say is statewide system that is used in collaboration with the State Attorney's Office, emergency responders, and school officials. It is important to know that tips are reviewed on the state level before being passed to the local police and/or school authorities. Please consider the purpose of your tip - Is it to provide another person with a way to receive help? Is it preventing an act of violence? Is it something that needs to involve local and state authorities? While the system is anonymous, abuse of the system will not be tolerated and actions will be taken if it is determined that the system is being used inappropriately.
