Valhalla Pride - August 11, 2021
Welcome Back! #FallForAll
Happy 1st Day of School!
Hello Valhalla Community!
It was wonderful to see so many families at All-in-One day! Thank you to the volunteers who made this event run so smoothly! If you were unable to make it, please come to the office today, or check into your Homelink account to see who your child’s teacher will be.
Please send your student with a mask and a water bottle; water bottles can be refilled in Thor Hall with cold filtered water! Kindergarten students should report directly to their classroom in the morning. Grades 1-5 will line up on the blacktop with their teacher where they will say the Pledge of Allegiance and listen to a few reminders.
Discuss with your child the plan for getting home. For example, who will pick them up, are they walking, and with whom. This will save a lot of time and confusion at the end of an exciting day.
New this year is a free breakfast and lunch! There is no cost to students for either meal. Encourage your child to utilize the cafeteria with its delicious, kid-friendly, free meals. There is no paperwork required! Breakfast will be served at morning recess.
School starts TOMORROW, Thursday, August 12. The first bell rings at 8:05 am. We are excited to see you! Please call the office at (925) 687-1700 if you have further questions.
Sincerely,
Miss Pappas

A Note From Our Librarian, Jennifer Neys
From the District: 2021-22 Welcome Back FAQ
Dear Mt. Diablo Unified School District Community,
In anticipation of the reopening of schools for in-person instruction on Aug. 12, we have created a "2021-22 Welcome Back FAQ" that we hope will answer many of the questions you may have about protocols for the coming school year. We are excited to welcome you back to our campuses and will be sending out more information as we receive guidance from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and Contra Costa Health Services Department.
Drop off & pick up safety guidelines:
Dear Parents,
Thank you for following all of our safety procedures at Valhalla. There are two options to . drop-off and pick up your students. You can park in the neighborhood and walk together up to the blacktop or stay in your vehicle and utlize the traffic circle where Mr. Ken and Miss Pappas will be there to help. Here are some reminders to review:
Please do not turn left from Kiki Dr. into Valhalla's parking lot. Only school busses are allowed to turn left into the parking lot, due to safety issues such as children crossing the street. You're also cutting in front of families who have been patiently waiting in the car line to pick up their students.
Please do not turn left out of our parking lot. Again, we have children and families using our crosswalk and it can be very dangerous. Our top priority is the safety of our students and families. Please turn right ONLY out of our parking lot.
Please do not park in our staff parking lot (it is for staff only). We were a little lax over distance learning, but you'll have to now go back to parking on the street if you need drop off or pick up your child. Every single staff space is assigned to a staff member and used during the school year.
Please do not walk through the parking lot. We have staff cars and busses moving through the parking lot and it is a big safety concern to be walking through our parking lot. Please instead use our walkways.
You can walk your student to their spot on the blacktop in the morning. You are welcome to stay through the pledge of allegiance on the blacktop in the back. Once the pledge is over, we ask that you quickly leave campus so we can get our students focused and ready for the day.
You can come and pick up your child from their classroom after school, however, please do not come onto campus until 2:40pm (M/T/Th/F) and 12:55pm (Wednesday) as to not distract from learning.
We thank you for your cooperation - our students' safety is our top priority!
