A Word From Mrs. Loor
WOW! I loved every moment of The Jungle Book Kids! It is always such a joy to watch children sing, act and dance their hearts out. It was amazing to see how talented our children are and how much fun they were having up there. A huge thanks to SPARC for making it possible to have the Wharton School of Performing Arts work with our students to put on this production. A double huge thanks to Mrs. Bell, Mrs. Barclay and Mrs. Sane for volunteering their time to ensure the success of this event. To the cast and crew: YOU WERE FANTASTIC!
We also had a little visit from a Harlem Wizard to promote the big game on April 23rd at Summit High School. Thea in 2nd grade and Michael in 3rd grade learned to do some neat tricks.
Please read below about how we are celebrating Read Across America this week. Can't wait to see what vocabulary word you choose and which book character you decide to dress up your potato as!
Just a reminder that the district is hosting an Executive Functioning Workshop for parents on March 1st. Please click HERE for more information and link to the live stream.
Have a wonderful week!
With Warmest Regards,
Mrs. Loor

Franklin will be celebrating a full week of Read Across America on Monday, February 27 - Friday, March 3. We have a great week planned with themed clothing, guests readers, a Vocabulary parade, and a Book Character Potato gallery. Please see the flyer for more information and links. Just email if you have any questions! (jmills@summit.k12.nj.us)
Finally, if your student is a Battle of the Books participant, please remind them that, although the weather can be mild, their attendance at Battle practices are important for the next month. Our building battles will run mid-March and our district battles will be during the final week of March.

TEAM UP FOR HEALTHY EATING!
Did you know that Franklin Elementary School is a USDA Team Nutrition School? As a “team,” Franklin School is working towards healthier school nutrition and snacking.
Team Franklin needs your help! Please be mindful of the student snack choices that are sent in on a daily basis. Many students are bringing candy and other unhealthy snacks to be consumed both in the classroom and lunchroom.
Snacks of minimal nutritional value, those that are high in sugar and fat and those with empty calories (i.e. candy, cookies, gushers, chips, sugary drinks etc.) are all foods of minimal nutritional value, and are not in keeping with our District Nutrition Policy #8505.
In addition, many candies contain nuts, or are processed in a plant with nuts, and put students with nut allergies at risk for exposure.
Fruits and vegetables, low fat yogurts and cheeses, hummus, popcorn, low sugar snack bars, and whole grain crackers are great alternatives and help establish healthy eating habits.
For health-related questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Zanelli, our school nurse. Her email is azanelli@summit.k12.nj.us. You can also visit the Summit Public Schools Virtual Health Office for additional information.
Counselor's Corner
For any questions regarding our counseling program, please contact Ms. Audino, our school counselor. Her email is laudino@summit.k12.nj.us.
