School-wide Assembly Sponsored by 5th Graders Today!
Our 5th grade students sponsored a school-wide assembly today to remind our school community of the RMCS agreements. We for care ourselves, we care for each other, and we care for our place. Fifth graders created, filmed, and narrated a movie to demonstrate how this looks and sounds in the classroom, the cafeteria, on the bus, and at recess. Here's an excerpt from their important message:
"We care about others in our classroom by listening quietly to what others have to say while they are speaking, helping our peers when they are struggling, helping others clean up spills, and by including others. We care about others at recess by being inclusive, by standing up for our classmates, helping our classmates remember what they brought out, and by making sure everyone has someone to play with."
Thank you fifth graders for caring for our school by being awesome role models and for your outstanding leadership! We ended the assembly by singing the Rick Marcotte Central School song all together. It was a joyous morning!
Walkers First!
Beginning Monday, December 19, we will release our students who walk home from school at the BEGINNING of the dismissal process. Walkers will be called to the RMCS Lobby to meet up with PrinciPAL McD at the same time bus buddies are called to meet kindergarten students. Mrs. McD will escort our fabulous group of walkers to the parent pick up area, and students may leave with adults BEFORE buses leave the parking lot. We hope this will be more convenient for parents, siblings, and caregivers who have been patiently standing in the cold (and sometimes rain) while waiting for their students at dismissal. See ya at dismissal!
Pre-K and Kindergarten Lanes at Arrival and Dismissal
Pull up! Our goal is to create a safe drop off and pick up lane for students, parents, caregivers, and all drivers, especially in the Pre-K and kindergarten lane. Please follow the signs and pull all the way up before loading your child. Thank you for your attention to this detail!
Marky Visits the PTO Book Fair
I thoroughly enjoyed the Barnes & Noble Book Fair last Sunday. The best part of the day was the read aloud I got to share with students. I'm sending gratitude to the RMCS staff members who attended to share their favorite books, a special thanks to the PTO for sponsoring this event, and a shout out to Barnes & Noble for supporting our school.

Common Roots in Health Classes December 5-9
Hello South Burlington Families!
This month Common Roots’ Farm to School is bringing back a well-loved lesson: Herbal Teas! We’ve got a whole beautiful array of herbs, generously donated from Railyard Apothecary, that will be carefully selected by your kiddos to make their very own tea blends. Then, we get cozy while our tea steeps…taking deep breaths, moving into the stretches that our bodies are asking for, and finally listening to a wintery story.
Our senses open up to our herbs as we take in their supportive aroma, , warmth, and flavor:
Peppermint for relaxing muscles… Chamomile for calming the brain… Rose for opening the heart… Oatstraw for nourishing and moistening… Red Clover for its honey sweetness, detoxification, and muscle toning powers! Learning about herbs and their powers helps us understand that all food has an effect on our bodies- whether it is a vitamin, mineral, or medicinal constituent- what we choose to nourish our bodies with can be functional, pointed, and honor our sense of dis-ease.
Are you interested in developing an evidenced-based grocery list of food and herbal allies for whatever symptoms you or your loved ones may be facing? From diagnosed nutrition-related illnesses, to food allergies, to digestive discomfort, and much more, healing can be found in food!
Please reach out to me, Kayli O’Donnell, RD if you’re ready to support getting your (or your kiddo’s) body back into balance.
First Graders Enjoying Yummy Herbal Tea
I'm a Little Tea Pot!
5th graders had fun with the children's nursery rhyme, I'm A Little Teapot with Health teacher, Mrs. Locker after preparing and tasting herbal tea.
Second Grade Celebration!
Last Friday, Mrs. Hock's class built forts at their table spots as a celebration for their hard work being accountable as they take care of themselves as students. Congratulations, 2nd graders!
From Librarian Allardyce
This week, we started sending home friendly overdue book email notices, and we hope these are helpful! You will only get an email if your child has an overdue book. If a book is lost or you would like me to remind your child during the school day, just reply to the email. It will come directly to me, and I can help at this end. Thank you for your support!

RMCS Family Night at UVM vs. AIC Hockey Game
January 14
As you know, UVM Hockey players have been visiting RMCS classrooms and making connections with our students. I'm excited to announce that we have been invited to participate in an RMCS Family Night at the UVM versus AIC hockey game on January 14. Students will be admitted for free!
Here's the link to sign up for your student's complimentary ticket. The password is wolves (case sensitive). This link also allows parents and caregivers to purchase tickets for $10.00 each. If you are purchasing a combination of free and purchased tickets, the system won’t let you choose two offers for one “cart.” There is a limit of 1 comp per order, so parents and caregivers who are claiming for multiple students should place a second (or third, or fourth) order if you have more than one child. This is UVM's first attempt at ticketing like this, so please be patient. The comp tickets (free tickets for students) will all be at the Will Call booth. Please reach out to athletic.tickets@uvm.edu if you have questions.
These are general admission tickets in sections 9-12, so your family members and friends will be able to sit together no matter the number on the ticket.
As always, reach out to a member of the care team (counselors, nurse, princiPALs) if you need financial assistance for this event. See names and emails above. We hope to fill the rink with RMCS families!!!
Recess Volunteer Sign Up Genius
We continue to welcome volunteers to help us at recess. We are fortunate to have a large playground and appreciate the parent volunteers who sign up to help us with supervision from time to time. If you have availability, please visit the Sign Up Genius to schedule the times you are available to join us in late November through the next winter break. Thank you!
