What's Happening Week of 2.19.2017
First United Methodist Church Trussville Children's Ministry
Parable of the Farmer and the Seed Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23; Luke 8:4-15
“It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow” (1 Corinthians 3:7).
Jesus tells a story about a farmer scattering seeds. Some fall on the path, some fall in rocky soil, and some fall among thorns. None of these seeds do well. But some fall in good soil and grow great plants. Jesus told this story to show that Jesus grows us.
Through the Week
- Fold four or five dry kidney beans inside a wet paper towel.
- Put the paper towel inside a quart-sized plastic bag and seal the bag shut, leaving some air inside the bag.
- Tape the plastic bag in a window, or put it on a plate near a window.
- Check it out! See what happens to the beans throughout the week, and talk about the ways the beans are changing.
- Talk about some of the changes we might see when Jesus grows us.

We love snacks. They taste good. But, even with all of their sweet, crunchy, salty, or chewy goodness; nothing compares to the goodness of our God.
“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.” - Psalm 34:8

CAMP SUMATANGA TIME!
Registration is now open for summer camp at Sumatanga. Each summer, children that have completed kindergarten-fifth grade enjoy a fun week at Camp Sumatanga (located about 40 minutes north of us in Gallant, AL).
Children that have completed kindergarten-second grade go to day camp Monday, June 12th -Friday, June 16th. The church will provide transportation to and from each day. Typically we take about 35 children to/from daily for an awesome experience. Friends are welcome to join us.
Overnight camp is for those children that have completed third-fifth grade. Parents will take their children to camp on Sunday, June 11th and pick them up on Friday, June 16th in the afternoon.
Each year, the church budgets for its families to receive funds to help pay for Sumatanga. Day campers receive $50 towards their cost of day camp ($135); overnight campers receive $150 towards their cost. This year, Sumatanga has a tiered fee schedule ($385/$425/$465) for overnight campers to best accommodate your budget. No matter which tier you select for your overnight camper your child’s experience is the same.
This year, if you register on-line you have to pay your entire balance upfront. Since church pays a portion of your child’s fee we are asking church families to fill out a paper application and give to Beth along with the $50 non-refundable deposit for each child for her to mail in. You can get your paper application by emailing Beth OR on-line at www.sumatanga.org. Feel free to contact Beth with any questions you may have.
