WIS Library News October 2018
Fall Book Fair - October 1-5
Join us for our fall book fair! Parents are welcome to shop anytime (no sales 8th period), and we'll be open during Open House on Thursday, October 4th (5:30-7:00 p.m.). Teacher gift certificates are available in any amount. Be sure to visit the book fair web site. You can add money to an account for your child to spend (ewallet), see the book fair flyer, and donate to our wish list. Our two book fairs serve as fundraisers for our library and are a major source of income, so thank you for your support!
Book Tasting for 6th Graders
During the week of September 10-14, 6th grade students participated in a "book tasting" where they were able to explore new genres of books, all in an Italian restaurant setting. 104 students placed books on reserve as a result of this fun way to get kids excited about new books.
Digital Citizenship Week Oct. 15-19
Digital Citizenship Week is coming soon. While this week is set aside for emphasis, we teach digital citizenship all year long. Common Sense Media has some wonderful resources for parents, particularly this page on cell phone usage.
The Dino Files: A Mysterious Egg
Our library recently won two copies of this great little book by author Stacy McAnulty. She held a Twitter contest and gifted the first reply from each state with two copies. I was the first person from Alabama to comment on her post and therefore won this book! Be sure to also check out her new book, The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl. It looks really good!
"Be a Champion and Read" contest
AEA is giving away three Iron Bowl tickets to two lucky Alabama students. To enter the drawing, they need to read six books, fill out a form with parent/guardian signature, and turn it in to Mrs. Lee by October 26, 2018. Forms were distributed on the students' last library visit. Extras are available in the library.
