Hearts Aflame For the Love of Christ
Moving Along with Mrs. Maddox
Dear Friends in Christ,
I was so proud of an email we received from a visiting school about our 8th grade students. Another parish asked if their student could attend our 8th grade Confirmation Retreat on February 1, 2020. This person took time to contact our parish and thank a few of our students for the hospitality and kindness they gave to one of their students who was very nervous about being in a different school, away from her friends and familiar faces. The author of the note took special care to recognize our eighth graders for their ability to notice how nervous she was, and to find ways to include her and welcome her.
At St. Joseph we are committed to the formation of not only just the mind, but also the heart and soul of each child. We have the privilege of teaching each student their inherent worth and dignity as a son or daughter of God. This includes helping them to recognize these same gifts in others. We are proud of our respected reputation throughout the Kansas City Metropolitan area for academic excellence; however, to us, notes of gratitude for sincere kindness and hospitality regarding our students mean just as much as our high achieving scores in Math, Reading, and Science.
Enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year is officially open!!! Please return your registration form by February 21st, 2020. This is the most important step for our administration as we try to preplan the best programs and curriculum for your student(s). We are unable to adequately plan our staffing, technology, textbook, and logistical needs until we know the number of students to expect. If you are unable to pay the registration fee by February 21st, please contact Vicky Cole, she is eager to help you (vcole@stjoeshawnee.org). If you know anyone who is new to the parish, or would like more information about St. Joseph School, please don't hesitate to have them contact me to book a tour, and to see our students and amazing teachers in action. We welcome all students, all abilities, and all faiths to our school. At St. Joseph School there is a genuine care and concern for each student. Encourage them to come check us out!!! You are our best sales-representative.
With a Grateful Heart,
Jodie Maddox, Principal

Nurse's Notes
We have seen a marked increase this week in diagnosed cases of Influenza in all grade levels. As a reminder, symptoms of influenza can include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, fatigue and occasionally vomiting and diarrhea (more common in children than adults).
Please continue to report diagnosed cases of influenza and Strep to the school nurse. Remind your children to cover their coughs, use good handwashing techniques, and keep hands away from eyes, nose and mouth to help prevent the spread of illness.
