Invisible Children
By: Carson Pace & Addie Harrison
Definition
Joseph Kony, the leader of the Lord's Resistance Army, abducted and forced children to become soldiers for their rebel army(Eichstaedt).
Cause
The tyrannical rulers want to rule without feeling threatened by neighboring countries(Peace). They also do not want competition for the many resources Uganda provides(Peace). In order to secure the power of Uganda, the Lord's Resistance Army was formed(Peace). Over the years the LRA has caused hysteria in the unstable parts of Uganda.
Effect
The lasting affects the LRA has caused are detrimental to society(Peace). Around 1.6 million people have been uprooted from their homes(Peace). "The LRA has been accused of the abduction of around 30,000 children, many of whom are forced into becoming child soilders"(Peace). This is a continuing issue throughout Uganda, that is still occurring today.
Solution
The Invisible Children is an organization that was created in 2004 to bring awareness to the actions of the Lord's Resistance Army and to find a way to stop the LRA(Russell). Invisible Children have a four step model to fix the problem: media, mobilization, protection, and recovery.
