Weekly Update for Week of April 25 - April 29, 2022
Good Evening Brightwood Family, this is Principal Stokes! Welcome to another great week of learning. Happy Sunday! This is reminder that our doors open at 7:00 am and tardy bell rings at 7:25 am. Please remember that everyone should be prepared to show identification card when picking up a student early which should be for emergencies and appointments should be done before 1:45 pm. Welcome back from our much-needed Spring Break. We hope that students took the time to read over the Spring Break so that they can enter to win some cool prizes.
Each morning from 7:25 – 8:00 am our students are engaged in EOG prep it is very difficult for the students to get the needed practice and feedback if they are late daily as we work to prepare them for the EOG assessment.
This week is a very busy week. This week we have our Book Fair here students will be able to preview the items on sale at the Book Fair on Monday, April 25 during their specials. They can also shop Monday if they have money. We accept cash, cards, or eWallet. No checks. Parents and teachers can set up eWallet accounts on the Book Fair web site. There IS North Carolina sales tax on all purchases. The information to set up an account is our school website and linked in our Class Dojo Story. After previewing on Monday students will only be able to visit the Book Fair if they have money and/or are with a parent/guardian. We ask that you come during their specials time if you plan to escort your child to the Book Fair.
Field day is here, we will have Field Day on this Thursday and Friday of this week each day starting at 8 am and ending at around 12. If parents or family plan to volunteer they must at least 18 years old and complete the volunteer clearance form prior to assisting with Field Day. All visitors are expected to check in at the front office and receive a visitor’s badge. We ask that you arrive after we have gotten students signed in properly. You will need to sign in and sign out on the computer if you are visiting for Field Day. All visitors are expected respectful, cordial and follow all adult expectations outlined by GCS and Brightwood School Community.
The federal waivers that allowed all schools to serve free breakfast and lunch to all students are ending this summer. To ensure that students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals are able to receive those meals on the first day of school, we are asking parents to fill out the application at www.lunchapplication.com. This will establish a family’s qualifications for meal discounts for the first 30 days of the 2022-23 school year. A new application must be completed after July 1 for the remainder of the school year. Paper copies of the were sent home with all students last week and copies are available if needed.
Parents as the weather and seasons are changing, we are in great need of your support in making sure that all students are their proper rest. Please create a set schedule that limits your child’s screen time, phone time, and TV time. It would also be beneficial that they have a reasonable set sleep time that will allow them to get enough sleep to function in school.
The district has provided new One Cards for all students. One Cards are a safety measure to assure that we know who is on our buses and in our school buildings each day. Please help your child keep track of their One Card and have it on each morning. One Cards are needed to get on the bus each morning. Also, One Cards are scanned each morning when they enter the building.
As we know it was voted that students have an option for wearing their mask. If you child is coughing, sneezing and/or showing any cold/flu like symptoms we will ask them to put on mask as a layer of protections. As before if your child is displaying of the symptom please keep them home and get them tested and/or seek medical guidance from your medical physician.
We greatly appreciate your support as we continuously work to provide an excellent education every day to each of our Brightwood Tiger this school year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us here at the school or send us a message on ClassDojo.
Thank you for all that you do and have a great evening. And Remember as always you are amazing!
Love Your Proud Principal
Ms. LaTrice Stokes
