CMMS Staff Information
COVID-19 Week of March 16, 2020
Information for Monday
Staff,
I first want to say HOW INCREDIBLY PROUD I AM to have each of you on our staff. You all showed up to support our students and families and didn't question our purpose! You are amazing, and I was truly touched on Friday. If you listen to our kiddos and review our social media postings, you can tell our kids do not want to leave school. They primarily post comments on Instagram, and they will definitely miss school and afterschool activities during the closure! They love you and CMMS, be proud!!!
Below is the most up to date information for the school day plan for tomorrow, and then a staff plan overview for this week and moving forward, more details to come. Please read carefully and begin to brainstorm your ideas, communicate with your curriculum and grade level teams. As you know, the plan is evolving. I will share updates as I receive them, this info is current as of today at noon.
At 6:50 - All staff please login to the Zoom Meeting session as soon as you are in your room prior to students arriving so we can be ready to go after announcements...
- Join Zoom Meeting-
https://bethelsd.zoom.us/j/969717194 - Notice the chat feature at the bottom, you and your students can submit questions with this chat button and we'll read and answer them as we can, if we don't have the answer we'll seek it out.
- If you have any trouble accessing Zoom or the chat please call for support and we'll come to your room.
Advisory 3/16:
- Zoom Meeting with Admin Question and Answer Session
- Circle in Advisory - All must be in an actual circle, but should not sit close, spread out and be sure to see your screen. This is when we use the circle as an anchor for community and connections. Please do not combine advisory classes for this. Circle slides are linked HERE and in the Advisory calendar. Please add any unanswered questions from your circle time on the Parking Lot Padlet.
- Video on Stress- Mrs. Cole shared a video you may use in advisory for students that address strategies for dealing with stress and self-care. Video linked and clickable below.
- For the remainder of advisory please make sure your students have all they need to fully complete their SLC slides and work on them. They will need to submit their completed SLC slides by Sunday 3/22 at midnight, they will not be presenting them. Make sure your canvas course allows students to submit their slides to you.
- If any of your students did not already submit the MANDATORY SURVEY from Friday, please have them do that ASAP.
Remainder of Monday, March 16, 2020:
- All teachers NEED TO SPECIFY EXACTLY what students need to do, and by when in order to have a final grade in your class by the end of the week. You know what your students need and you also know students you can give a grade to right now. You determine what is reasonable and clearly communicate this both in person for students that are present, and send an email to all students and families with the specifics. The grading window has not changed and remains as March 18-March 23, but obviously a thousand other circumstances have changed. Use your professional judgement, and let Brit know if you have any questions.
MANDATORY SURVEY FOR ALL STUDENTS
Please remind all advisory students to complete this CMMS STUDENT INFORMATION SURVEY!
Brit emailed all advisors a list of kids that completed, please reach out to any students that have not completed it.
Remainder of the Week of March 16, 2020
*** Building Hours for All Staff Starting March 17, 2020: 7:00 - 2:30
*** If you haven't read the BEA talking points from Friday's meeting, please do so. The Union and the District are in alignment with each other regarding the details of this closure. Of course, it's evolving so please give grace!
*** It is IMPORTANT to note that we are providing ONLINE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES for students. CMMS is NOT providing full out online courses that are final grade or credit bearing. As a community that has supported BSD with multiple tech levies and 1:1 secondary devices that go back and forth between home and school, we hold a responsibility to provide these online learning opportunities for our students throughout the closure due to COVID-19. If students are not engaging and making progress, we can identify needed supports to get them engaged and working. Counselors, Social Worker, Para-Educators can support with this. Teacher should provide feedback and document progress made for all students to support their growth toward identified standards.
Team Meetings:
On Tuesday, Paul and Brit will meet with curriculum departments and other various teams, we will send a schedule of meeting times out sometime tomorrow. We cannot all meet together at the same time, and when we meet we need to ensure we maintain social distancing.
Staff Children:
If you are planning to bring your own children to work, please let Brit know so we know who is in the building. A plan must be in place between the employee and their direct supervisor to ensure all children are safe and supervised and don’t interfere with the employees' duties.
Work Day/Sick Leave:
A work day is still a work day as on the district calendar. If you need to call in sick, please continue to do so with AESOP.
Students with IEPs:
IEPs still need to be completed as do evaluations. The only exceptions is initial evaluations. IEPs will be taken via phone, in person meetings, and/or via tech platforms.Teachers not in the meetings must provide feedback to the case manager right away so they can write the IEPs
Conferences are Canceled:
Advisory teachers and content teachers need to have a systematic way of planning for communicating with parents during this time. Make sure you know who is and who is not engaging, as well as a plan for reaching out if they are struggling to engage.
State Testing is ALL CANCELED!!!
Childcare:
Child care will be at the following sites as needed
Bethel Middle & Shining Mountain Elementary
Spanaway Middle & Thompson Elementary
Frontier Middle & Nelson Elementary
Child care is only available for children of Health Care workers and First Responders.
We are looking for two certificated staff members who would like an extra stipend to support this Child Care program. Stipends will be approximately $800 per week for 4 hours per day. Two lead teachers will be established at each site. The lead teacher will be supporting the para in the program planning and assuring the para has what they need to work with students. A job description for the Teacher Lead will be available tomorrow.
Teacher Lead Stipend: Site hours for childcare will be from 7AM-6PM. If you are interested, there will be flexibility when the the teacher lead will need to work his/her 4 hours. If you are interested in being a Teacher Lead, please let me know.
Paraprofessionals Interested in Supporting Childcare: Please let me know if you would like to support the childcare program at various sites. I will make sure I pass that information along. This would satisfy your regularly scheduled duties. You would be facilitating activities and supervising students.
Nutrition Breakfast/Lunch:
CMMS is a site for breakfast/lunch distribution. Our school will be serving a meal sack that contains 1 lunch and 1 breakfast. It will be available as a pick up only model. Times will be shared soon.
Custodial Staff Schedules will Remain the Same
Classified Staff: Please plan on being in attendance in the building every regularly planned school day until further notice. It is likely that your responsibilities will change and evolve during the closure, more info to come about this. Paul and Brit will meet with the classified team on Tuesday to discuss the possibilities.
Certificated Staff:
-Required to be in the building on Tuesday 3/17 and Wednesday 3/18 for Planning
-Possibility to Begin Working Remotely as of Thursday 3/19 with Admin Approval
-You may work in the building during the closure as you choose as long as you maintain social distancing. Brit and/or Paul will be in the building each day, specific hours are still being determined.
For our meetings and your planning this week, please begin to brainstorm about the following topics...
- What standards would you want students to make growth toward during the closure?
- How will you clearly communicate the standards to students?
- How will you make it clear what standards they will need to have made progress on in order to engage in the work when we return to school?
- What platform(s) do you plan to use to give them access to the content?
- How best can you streamline all of this for students and families?
- How do you plan to check in on students not making progress or need extra support?
- What is reasonable for them to complete and be responsible for knowing that there are other factors at play for both students, families and staff?
- How would you like to use para support?
- Keep equitable opportunities in mind, and if you believe students need different resources you may use our paras for this in a variety of ways.
- What PD would you like for Paul and I to provide or find resources for you about?
- If you're all caught up for closure activities, what unit planning can you do with your team for the end of this year and for next year?
- What will your PLC collaboration look like when working remotely?
- PLCs should meet regularly at school or as ZOOM/Google Hangouts Meet
- A template for reasonable accountability of time between admin/staff will be sent out soon.
- How to make this the best it can be under these circumstances!!!
