Week of October 12th-16th
Principal's Message
Dear Hoover Families,
I hope you are enjoying the beautiful autumn weather. Please be sure you read the newsletter as there is A LOT of very important information. I continue to be grateful for the students and their determination with virtual learning. Please encourage your child to look at their google emails daily for messages from their teachers and complete all their missing assignments, this is particularly important as we approach report card time and virtual conferences in November. Additionally, please reach-out to us if there are any pressing issues or need support connecting with teachers. Our office and admin staff are fully bilingual and will be happy to translate your questions or concerns when you meet with your teachers. Hoover aims to have open dialogue with you, our community, and answers all of your questions and concerns as they arise.
I also wanted to let the community know that at their last meeting on October 7th, the Redwood City School District (RCSD) Board of Trustees reached consensus for all grade levels (PreK-8) to return to in-person teaching and learning beginning on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. However, long distance learning will also be available for families who may choose to keep their children home due to health and safety concerns. Here is a link to the newsletter sent by the DO with details on the board's decision, please read it carefully and feel free to reach out with any questions that you may have.
The district is also looking to create learning hubs, and teacher pilot pods, with a limited number of students (12 max) similar to the pods being offered by the Boys and Girls. These learning hubs and teaching pilot pods shall be starting soon. I will give you more details about this as soon as I get them.
Thanks again for all you do for your children and families! Together we will overcome the challenge that we are all facing, and come out it stronger than ever!
October is attendance awareness month! Daily Attendance is Crucial!
Did you know that kinder and first grade students who are chronically absent have an 81% chance of reading below grade level by the time the reach third grade? in addition to this, students in middle school who are chronically absent are 7.4 times likely to drop out from high school? These are certainly alarming statistic that we all want to avoid at all costs. So, attend today! CONNECT daily and complete all assignments so you can give yourself a greater chance of success!
National Hispanic Month
We continue to celebrate National Hispanic Month in October. I invite you to read the biographies of two amazing Latinas who continue to make great contributions to
our nation.
Here are some positive trends about education in the Latino community:
- Over the past decade, the Hispanic high school dropout rate has dropped dramatically.
- Hispanics are making big inroads in college enrollment.
Si Se Puede!

Hoover rocks!
Congratulations Hoover School!
