AIS Friday Flash-Special Edition
Friday, August 2, 2019
We hope that you had an amazing time with your family during the summer break. We are very excited to welcome your child(ren) at AIS in a couple of weeks and we wanted to share some information with you to prepare for the beginning of the year.
Summer Reading
We hope that your children have enjoyed a summer full of fun, relaxation, and – of course – plenty of reading! We have been very excited to launch our new summer reading program for the 2019-2020 school year. There’s still time to get some last-minute summer reading in before school starts in two weeks’ time! Cycle 2 (CP, CE1, and CE2) students who have engaged in optional summer reading should remember to complete their summer reading log so that they can share their learning with the class. Cycle 3 elementary (CM1 and CM2) students should be prepared to share their English required reading assignments when they return to school; don’t forget to log any of the optional reading in French and Spanish in the summer reading log! Middle School students must complete the required reading assignments for English, French, and Spanish and be prepared to share their assignments upon returning for the new year. For more information, please visit the summer reading program section of our website.
2018-2019 School Supply Orders due by Aug 10th!
Easy online purchasing:
This year we have partnered with Yubbler, for online ordering of class supplies at discounted prices. The best part is that Yubbler is generously donating 50% of the profits back to the school for all supplies ordered through their site. Here are the easy steps to follow to order your supplies in time for school.
Orders placed in August will receive 5% off. To get started:
- Register for a coupon code here.
- The coupon code will be sent to your email from Yubbler!
- From the coupon email, you may click directly onto our school supply website for AIS to order your supplies.
- You can copy and paste the code at checkout for the discount.
How it works: Find your child's grade on the AIS school supply site. All necessary supplies are listed. Some grades have a few items you may need to buy separately. Simply add all items to your cart or you can remove items you may already have on hand. Supplies are shipped “Next Day” to your home for free. It’s that simple!
When: The deadline to purchase supplies is August 10th to ensure you receive your classroom supplies for the 1st day of school. Parents are able to purchase supplies past the deadline, however, classroom supplies for those purchases are not guaranteed to be delivered by the 1st day of school.
If you have any questions, you can contact Yubbler at orders@yubbler.com.
- All transactions are processed by PayPal’s BrainTree secure online payment service.
Our teachers worked hard on their specific lists and love their brands! You certainly don't have to order through Yubbler, as many items you may even have on hand. But we ask that whenever possible, try to purchase the brands listed. The online tool is an easy click of the button to add to your cart, however, if you find items elsewhere or stumble across great back to school sales or deals, by all means, take advantage of those!
Don't forget our partner retailers, Amazonsmile and Office Depot/OfficeMax will donate to the school if you select AIS as your recipient charity for all purchases made throughout the year. You can find amazonsmile information here, by choosing Austin International School Association as your charity of choice and logging into Amazonsmile.com each time you shop at Amazon for all your shopping needs. For OfficeDepot's Give Back to Schools program, find our school name and ID#157608800. Thanks for participating in our effortless giving programs!
Additional Items Needed for Maternelle (PS - GS)
Here are some additional items needed for Maternelle students as well as some information about routines. Teachers will share more information about these at Meet the Teachers and Back to School Night.
Snack/lunch
Your child will need a lunch box with 2 snacks (one for the morning and one for the afternoon, to be packaged separately please to ease the process) as well as a lunch if you don't utilize the hot lunch option offered by the school. Please remember that all food must be nut-free. We are happy to microwave items in each classroom. Please make sure that those items are packed in a microwavable container.
Water bottle
Your child will also need a reusable water bottle with his/her name on it filled up in the morning and we will refill as needed during the day.
Nap items (PS and MS students only)
Students in PS and MS will need a large handle bag (included in the supply list) for their daily nap. Please ensure it can fit their nap items: a small blanket, a very small pillow (optional) and a small quiet stuffed animal (if needed). All items must fit in one nap cubby. The large bag will be left on your child's hook outside the classroom. and nap items will be sent home every Friday to be washed and returned the following week.
Cahier de vie
On Fridays, you will also receive your child's "cahier de vie". The teachers will explain the purpose of this book and we encourage you to look at it and discuss it with your child every weekend, as well as add items to it.
Backpack
We recommend a large backpack that can fit a binder and the "cahier de vie". It will save you time and stress when you pack all these items on Fridays!
Gym shoes
We ask you to please bring a pair of gym shoes to keep in the classroom and use during gym class. Flexible shoes with a rubber sole are best for your child's safety. Please avoid laces and anything distracting (sparkles, lights, etc.).
Change of clothes
Lastly, we ask that you bring a change of (dress code) clothes in a Ziploc, labeled with your child's name (top, bottom, underwear, socks) to stay at school. We thank you in advance for sending new clean clothes whenever needed throughout the year.
Additional Books to Purchase for CM1 thru 4è
Below you will find a list of books that you will need to purchase as a part of your child's supplies for the upcoming school year in Cycle 3 (CM1, CM2, 6è) and Cycle 4 (5è, 4è). You have also seen them listed on the school supply site as additional items to purchase. Your child will be able to highlight, annotate, underline and mark the texts for learning purposes, and after their unit of study, they will be able to take them home and keep them!

AIS will offer afterschool activities in French, Spanish, and English. Be on the lookout for the full class schedule next week! Afterschool Activity sign-ups will open at Meet the Teacher on August 13th.
