Face Covering Change as of 2/22/22
BOE action on Feb 21, 2022: Masks to be optional, 2/22/22.
BCS Students, Parents/Caregivers, and Staff:
The Berkeley County Board of Education revised its universal masking policy indicating that masks be optional in Berkeley County Schools and board owned facilities, effective Tuesday, February 22, 2022. At this time, masks will still be required on all school buses due to the federal mask mandate for public transportation.
Consistent with our past practices, we will continue to vigorously promote mitigation strategies. Students and staff who are sick should not come to school. School nurses will monitor students and staff for symptoms and dismiss those who show symptoms typical of communicable diseases.
Masks will still be available to anyone who wants one and we will continue our collaboration with our health partners as often as needed about special cases and any concerning trends in classrooms or schools.
With this transition, it is important to continue monitoring your symptoms daily and to stay home from work or school if you are not feeling healthy and well. If a student or staff member does test positive, regardless of masking or vaccination, they should stay home for at least five days and isolate from others. Our updated face covering and quarantine procedures are included below for your review.
I want to once again extend my thanks and appreciation to our students, families, and staff for your cooperation during the most recent face covering mandate. It is my hope that we will be able to continue the school year without wide-spread interruptions to instruction and nutrition and that our students and staff can enjoy the remainder of this year feeling healthy and well.
Stay safe and be well.
Patrick K. Murphy, Ed.,D. Superintendent of Schools
