PSAT
In response to this escalating data, we must all commit ourselves to minimize exposure and risk. SMCPS will be doing this by reducing the number of grade-level test-takers for the PSAT, tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, January 26, 2021. As a result, only 10th and 11th graders will be given the opportunity to take the PSAT for this school year.
Students will be asked to submit their intention to take the January 2021 PSAT in the form of an online survey by January 8, 2021; this survey can be found on the link at the bottom of this letter. By asking students to pre-register for the PSAT, this lead time will allow our sites and their testing coordinators to proactively plan for its administration with the assurance that proper social distancing and health protocols are firmly established.
Additional updates will be provided as soon as they are available in early January 2021. Be advised that safety for both our staff and students is our top priority. If you have questions regarding the PSAT administration and/or the pre-registration process, please contact Mr. James Copsey at jhcopsey3@smcps.org.
2020-2021 PSAT Survey - LHS Pre-Registration for 10th & 11th Graders
SAT / ACT
Community spread of COVID 19 has continued to increase over the past three weeks with record numbers of new cases each week. St. Mary’s County posted 262 new COVID 19 cases last week alone. This is coupled with a positivity rate for those tested that has reached double digits - far exceeding the threshold set by Governor Hogan and State Superintendent of Schools Salmon to be acceptable to conduct in-person instruction.
In response to this escalating data, we must all commit ourselves to minimize exposure and risk. SMCPS will be doing this by cancelling the SAT administration that was tentatively scheduled for Saturday, December 5, 2020. In addition, the ACT scheduled for December 12, 2020, is also canceled.
Students will be provided the opportunity to take the SAT free of charge on March 24, 2021, as part of the SAT School Day. Additional information will be provided to students in early March 2021 as to the registration process for the administration. There is no action required by the student unless they paid for the essay portion of the SAT. (waiting on direction from the College Board).
Additional updates will be provided as soon as they are available. If you have questions regarding the SAT administration updates please contact your school’s College and Career Liaison.
