From the Principal
Kia Ora e te Whanau,
Excellence is a continued obligation and not an option. We need to continually strive and work together to achieve expectations that are consistently aspirational. Collectively support our children to aspire to excellence in everything we do.
We want our students of Rosehill College to lead and not to be afraid to do their best and be their best. Our partnership with parents is pivotal, as a school we cannot do this alone. Our weekly engagement reports are sent out to each family, these are a vital ingredient needed to achieve excellence. Our school uniform to be worn with pride and loyalty, attendance sharp and on time.

CLM Survey
CLM is running a survey which will help us understand how you experience physical activity (sport, PE, recreation and play) at school.
We want you to have great experiences when being active at school. By taking part in this survey, you will have your voice heard and help us make decisions which benefit you. The survey is for everybody – whether you regularly do physical activity, or not, so we welcome every student to participate.

Course Selection
Just a reminder that students need to enter their course selection on the portal and hand their signed form to their Tutor Teacher by this Tuesday.
Parents and whanau can contact Heads of House or curriculum leaders in subjects to discuss course selections. All students should be considering three key questions for course selection:
- "What do I enjoy?"
- "What am I good at?"
- "What leads to my preferred careers/pathways?"
Our curriculum leaders offer the following advice for students, beyond what is in the Course Information Booklets on StudentHub:
Students can log in to Careers Central for further information.
Year 11 Compulsory courses
11MAI, 11ENG and 11SCG are the Year 11 courses suitable for most students and offer broad pathways at and beyond school.
11MAA (Year 11 Advanced Mathematics) and 11SCA (Year 11 Advanced Science) courses will be selected based on Year 10 results in 2022. Any student who wishes to be considered for the advanced courses will need to select 11MAT or 11SCI on the portal.
Only those students who are strong in Algebra skills and are hoping for a mathematics rich career (e.g. engineering, bio-medicine) should select 11MAT.
Students needing a multi-science pathway at school and beyond (e.g. Chemistry and/or Physics) should select 11SCI.
Year 12 University Entrance Literacy
Selecting 12ENG or 12ENI will enable students the opportunity to gain the University Entrance Literacy requirements. Students who do not wish to take Year 12 English will need to plan an alternative literacy programme.
Performing Arts courses (Year 10- Year 13)
Performing Arts courses require performance. Music, Drama and Dance students are required to perform in front of audiences of peers and the general public. This includes ensemble and solo performances. Music students should have instrumental training for at least three years before selecting NCEA Level Music courses.

Recap: 11PEA tramp to the Pinnacles
Two days of spectacular weather last week saw our year 11 advanced physical education ākonga venturing up to the Pinnacles hut. The ākonga were well rewarded for all their mahi walking up the hills with an amazing sunset to the west and then again the next morning with an equally amazing sunrise over Pauanui. As a class they were so organised, so keen to learn, and their care of the whenua we were in was something to be proud of. Great effort whānau!!

Recap: Working Bee @ Rosehill College last Saturday
It was with much appreciation that we welcomed members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to Rosehill College. Giving service of their own free will and time, dedication was given to cleaning the back of the school behind the Technology Block, which involved clearing tree branches, picking up rubbish and clearing the leaves off the student-made decking. Part of the service included cleaning and tidying the Māori Department resource room and kitchen, of which they did an amazing job.
Ka nui te mihi ki a Zowie Elkington for organising, Jason Mataira for organising tools and supervising, Tania Heka for providing spray bottles and paper towels, and all the many members that came out to serve with one heart, one mind and one purpose.

Tautoko te rā daffodil - Friday 26th August 2022
Daffodil Day symbolises hope for all New Zealanders impacted by cancer.
Every day 71 New Zealanders are diagnosed with cancer. For over 30 years New Zealanders have supported the work of the Cancer Society on Daffodil Day and we need your help again this year.
Whether it's driving someone to their treatment, providing advice to someone who has rung our 0800 number, or sitting with them during their treatment - the Cancer Society is there. But we can't do this without your help.
Every dollar raised for Daffodil Day will go towards cancer care for patients and their whānau, education and awareness programmes, and life-saving cancer research.
