Principal's Message
Pattengill Community,
It has been another exciting week here at Pattengill. Our students have been actively engaged in their learning, showcasing creativity, curiosity, and teamwork. This has been a week full of student-led initiatives, highlighting the leadership skills of our young learners. Additionally, our fourth graders had the incredible opportunity to visit the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA), immersing themselves in a world of art and culture. I want to express my gratitude to all of our parents who attended our recent PTA meeting on Tuesday; your involvement is truly appreciated and we are excited about all of the PTA events on the horizon.
March is Reading Month is quickly approaching and our Pattengill Team is hard at work to make March a memorable month for all of students. Parents should have received a notice to order March is Reading Month shirts. We are also planning our Spring Book Fair.
Thank you for your ongoing support and dedication to Pattengill. Together we are creating a positive and enriching environment for our students to thrive.
Proud to be your principal!
Shamika

Leader in Me Student Lighthouse Team Assembly
The Pattengill Student Lighthouse Team holds an all-school assembly each month. Our Student Lighthouse team works hard each month to create and lead our assembly. Our February assembly was all about Power Words. In last month's Habit Huddle, all of our students discussed Power Words and each student picked their own Power Word and posted it on their locker. At this month's assembly, our Student Lighthouse Team shared their Power Word with the school. One student per class was also selected to share their own Power Word with the school.
Happy 100th Day of School from Kindergarten!
2024 African American Read-In
The Pattengill and PTA DEI Committees are happy to sponsor Genius in Our Stories: 2024 African American Read-In presented by Oakland Schools and the Berkley School District. All of our Pattengill families are invited to register and join us on Thursday, February 29th at 6:45 Patttengill. Registration closes on February 14th.
During the month of February, we will be working on kindness in our school counseling classroom lessons. Kindness is one of the most powerful tools we can cultivate to help create and maintain optimism and empathy into our thoughts, feelings, and actions. We are focusing on how kindness helps us form positive connections with people and creates a warm, supportive environment. Keep your eye out for random acts of kindness and see how contagious it really is! Be well! joan.lynch@berkleyschools.org

What is Founders’ Day?
Founders' Day is an annual celebration dedicated to honoring the Founders of the PTA movement, and a time to reflect on how this collaboration between parents and teachers has benefitted the lives of children since 1897.
Each year, the Berkley PTSA Council celebrates this occasion by hosting a dinner during which teachers, support staff and PTA members from each school are recognized for their dedication to education and commitment to PTA values.
We ask Pattengill families and students to nominate individuals for Educator, Support Staff, and PTA Member of the Year using this link: https://forms.gle/VziZByakHRW8yvEH7. Please use the comments sections on the form to share your excellent experiences/observations of those you nominate. Your kind words and stories will be shared with the nominee if chosen for this honor. We appreciate your input and support! Voting ends 2/9/24.
Join the celebration by attending the Founders’ Day dinner on March 1, 6-9pm, at Club Venetian in Madison Heights. Tickets cost $35 and include dinner. A cash bar will be available. Registration and ticket information can be found here: https://forms.gle/mdmRGE93xJEaUNtY6
