Suwanee Express
Week of September 9th
What a spectacular start to September! I want to begin with a big shout of thanks to our amazing cafe, custodian, and support staff for making Grandparents Day extra special. Tons of planning and heart goes into making this event successful, and wow did the Suwanee team shine! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Grade level teams, are you ready to schedule your first WOW day to prepare for the 2nd quarter? Let's get those on the calendar as soon as possible. Try to avoid Mondays or Fridays.
We have Cogat this week, and we will finish with the Jaguar Jamboree on Friday. I hope you and your family will join in on the fun.
Remember that joy is contagious let's spread joy throughout our classroom and building. Thanks for your continued hard work and all you do for our students.

Super Scoggins News!
I have a resource that you might like for vocabulary and sight words. I made an example of how you can use it with some sight words for 2nd grade. You click the letter of the alphabet on the main slide to link you to the slide with the words. I added in a picture when I could find one, and a sentence using the word. The QR code reads the sentence to the student. You can record your voice reading the sentence to students as well. I used a website I found with recorded sentences in the example. I am planning on having an optional Y'all Come session in my office on 9/19 if you would like to look at this resource together. The link below will take you to the Suwanee Training eCLASS page to view.
Duncan Details from the Media Center
This book fair was a HUGE success. We were able to increase our total sales by almost $2000 from the same fair last year. Our total sales after taxes are taken out was $14,589.53. Our media program benefits greatly from this fund-raiser. 25% of the total in sales will be given to our school to support our author visit (in conjunction with funds from our PTA), funds are also used to provide reading incentives throughout the school year and to purchase books for our media center.
I know that many of you got wonderful additions to your class libraries. Thank you so much for taking the time to make a wish list.
Thank you for your flexibility with book checkout and shopping times during the grandparent's lunches. These lunches are a lot of work for our cafe, custodial staff, office staff and administration, but they help make our book fair a big success. We had almost $5000 in sales just on Friday alone!
This week the media center looks forward to working with 2nd grade on research skills, seeing our kindergartner's again for their weekly story and checkout. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to support your grade level.

News From Katie Sample
Proctors please meet in the classrooms during announcements so we can get the classroom started as soon as possible.
Many teachers have these greeting options at their door! What a great way to greet your students each morning. Greeting our kiddos at the door in the morning is best practice and an effective way to ensure you connect with each of your students each day. :)

Shout Outs from our families!
From a grandparent's perspective, this is how you all made us all feel welcome:
2. You were greeted at the front door and provided a place to sit
3. You were offered water.
4. The Principal took the time to greet you
5. You were explained how you would find your grandchild and escorted to the cafeteria
6. The cafeteria monitor walked around offering to make pictures.
Thank you for all you do.
-A special fan and grandmother
Mrs. Fidero, thank you so much for all the info you provided. I must say, many of the parents commented as I did also, that you really seem to have things very organized. You have a lot of great ideas and constructive ways to teach. The District Assessment grades for August, Wednesday's Study-Hall and the Parent Phone Conferences are a great example. As a parent, I'm sure you can understand how it alleviates our anxiety about how they will do this coming year. Thank you for making yourself so available to us and the children. It makes a big difference.
-Suwanee Parent
Mrs. Jones knows that being a teacher often means approaching each child differently. Her heart and compassion and commitment to helping our son build a strong character and feeling of self-worth is incredible.
