Important Notes
Here are a few important reminders:
- If your child will go home a different way than usual, you will need to write a note. If I do not have a note saying they will go home a different way, I will send them home their normal way.
- Please, please make sure your child has a supply of pencils, paper, and a dry erase marker (black works best).
- Please remember, our day starts at 7:30. Students switch classes at 7:50. Every minute of our day is precious. Thank you.
- We go out to recess everyday unless it is raining, the ground is too wet, or below 32 degrees. Students without coats will not be permitted outside. Please make sure your child has on a warm coat and pants on very cold days. Thank you.
- As you are probably aware, we have had a lot of illness and absences lately. Please do not send your child to school if they have any symptoms. Students must be fever free for 24 hours without medication before returning to school after an illness. In addition, they must not have vomited or had a case of diarrhea for 24 hours. Don't worry about make up work. We will get them caught up. Please understand we will send them home if they return with any of these conditions. Thank you.
Social Studies Notes
We have finished our study of the people of North Carolina. We will now move onto North Carolina's government. This will be one of our bigger units as we will learn about the three branches of North Carolina's government and the role each branch plays. We will also learn about county and local governments as well. We will have a few guest speakers come and talk about their role in government.
Science Notes
We finished our unit on light energy. We are now starting our next big unit, plant and animal adaptations. In this unit, we will explore how plants and animals use a variety of techniques to adapt to their specific environment. We will also learn about how plants and animals have changed over time to adapt to their environment. We will finish this unit learning about instincts, reflexes, and adaptations humans make to better adapt to their environment.
School Budget - We Need You!
As you are probably aware, new state mandates have added a huge burden on an already strapped local school districts like ours. In the very new future, there will be a series of important meetings to discuss the impact these new state mandates will have on our school system's operating budget, how the district intends to counteract these impacts, and what our school board and county commissioners can do to help our schools. We urge everyone to come to these meetings to listen or share your thoughts on school funding with our school board and/or county commissioners. For more information, please visit the district web site (www.ncmcs.org), the SFL PTA page on Facebook, or the Parents for Moore page on Facebook. Please come out and let our school board and county commissioners know you support full funding of our schools.
Boosterthon is On!
Our school is having a Boosterthon to raise money for a new piece of amazing playground equipment. We have been talking about it everyday in school and information went home earlier this week. The students are very excited about this. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask or go to www.funrun.com. We appreciate any thing you can do to help our school with this endeavor.
