Do you ever feel like it's just impossible to get into great shape?

It's so easy to look at fit people and think "They were born that way. It's impossible for me to be that fit." But the truth is, it's not impossible, and very fit people started at the beginning, too. What did they do to get where they are today? They worked for it. It took determination, consistency, and focus on the goal. In many cases, they also had a coach and a specific plan to get there. And now YOU can have those too! Are you ready?

You don't have to be great to start, but you must START to be great!

Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway. Why not pass the time with me: having fun, supporting each other, and working on those goals! It’s great to have long term goals, but the way to reach them is by setting smaller, more manageable goals and focusing on those. So we are going to focus on the next 8 weeks only, and we're going to give it our all!

Why is it important to lift weights?

If you tend to stick to ‘just cardio’ workouts, this is a great chance to incorporate weights into your life. The truth is, weight training can have even an greater impact than cardio on fat loss, bone density, joint health and even helps with cardiovascular health. The benefits of weight training don’t end there! Recent research also indicates lifting weights actually changes the structure of the brain. Weightlifting can slow down brain shrinkage, improve memory and improve gait in older age. And of course, lifting weights helps us look better! When people say they want to be 'more toned', what they really are saying is they want less fat and more muscle. The way to get there is with weight training!

We will help get you there!

It’s a proven fact that we are more likely to achieve our health and fitness goals if we work on it together with a friend or a group of friends. Sometimes it takes being accountable to someone else to get us in the habit of being accountable to ourselves, and that's when being a part of an accountability group can make a world of difference to our success.


It's always incredibly inspiring and motivating to be a part of a group like this, full of people who are doing amazing things and keeping their promises to themselves and to each other. Together we are stronger!


When you join this TEAM of people who share in the same journey, you are committing to showing up every day, being accountable and holding others accountable as well. For the months of June and July, we are your new family. For 8 weeks, we will have each others' backs, and promise NOT to quit on each other. If you can commit to it, you WILL get amazing results!

What am I committing to?

Starting Monday, June 6, for 8 weeks we will follow The Master's Hammer & Chisel workout program, from Sagi Kalev (from Body Beast) and Autumn Calabrese (from 21 Day Fix). These are 30-40 minute workouts that we'll do in our own homes (either on DVD or streaming via the web) 6 days a week . These are comprehensive resistance-training workouts designed for efficiency and effectiveness. The workouts are structured in three phases - stabilization, strength and power. This program comes with a great variety of workouts so you never get bored and never do the same workout two days in a row. There is also a modifier to follow if you are a beginner, or if you have limited equipment.


You also get a meal plan and nutrition guide, and a set of 7 portion-control containers and a shaker cup. The meal plan offers flexible nutrition that provides options based on your goals so you can choose to lean out, sculpt and maintain, or build muscle.


For the duration of this challenge, I will also replace one meal or snack per day with Shakeology. Shakeology is a one-of-a-kind product. Each shake is dense with nutrition, free of chemicals, rich with super-foods and will super-charge your health, fitness and weight loss efforts. It is not required to participate, but I highly recommend it for best results!


All of our interaction will take place in a private Facebook group, and the workouts can be done anywhere you have a dvd player and about a 6' square space.

What equipment do I need?

  • A few dumbbells of various weights appropriate to your strength and fitness level.
  • A bench, stability ball, or chair/stool.
  • A chin-up bar or a resistance band and a door attachment or something sturdy to wrap the band around.


If you don't have much equipment, check local swap/sell Facebook pages or garage sales...people are always looking to get rid of fitness equipment, and it's a great, inexpensive way to build your home gym! You can also find any of the necessary equipment at any sporting good store, or you can contact me and I can help you order equipment.

About Heather "Fit Coach Gillis" and Team FitQuest

I’m a wife and mother of 2 adorable boys. I’m originally from the Midwest (Go Jayhawks!) and lived/worked in NYC for years pre-baby before settling in suburban NJ. I’ve been an ‘on and off’ exerciser for years. I’m now in my mid-40s and ever since college I’ve had my struggles with maintaining a healthy weight. I’ve been just about every size available at some point in my life! After I had my first child I really struggled to lose the weight and just hated how I felt. I did eventually lose the baby weight, although gained back 10 pounds pretty quickly and stayed there for several years. Then I got pregnant with my second child and really did not want to feel so bad about myself after this pregnancy. When my baby was 10 weeks old I started the Focus T25 program, my first exposure to Beachbody, and it made me feel so good! I lost almost all the baby weight in that first round of T25, then proceeded to Insanity, then another round of T25, then tried Shakeology and got hooked! Shakeology helped me lose the last few baby pounds and then some. I am still a ‘work in progress’ and am nowhere near a hardbody (yet!), but I am definitely a believer in the Beachbody products and philosophy. Having the help of a coach and the accountability of the challenge groups really made the difference for me, and I love that I can help others on their health journeys as well.

I created Team FitQuest to be an inspiring community for those on a quest towards better health, with a focus on eating whole foods, finding exercise that makes us happy and gets us results, and sharing each others' victories and challenges. It's not about perfection, it's about making progress every day!
