New Phone System
Parents – Cumberland Road Elementary School has switched to a new phone system. This affects only internal extensions and does not impact the main number – 317-594-4170.
However, we ask your patience as we learn the new system. We apologize, in advance, for any inconveniences as we get up to speed on this new technology.
DISMISSAL NOTE REMINDER:
- Please put the students FIRST AND LAST NAME on their notes when there is a dismissal change. The note needs to be dated and signed by the parent.
- If your child will be going home with another student, we need a note from both parents saying it's okay. One note for the child to go to the other students home, and a note verifying it is okay with the receiving parent that the student may come to their home. Both notes will be approved with a red stamp by the office to give to the bus driver.
From our Nurse
The clinic has a supply of over-the-counter medications to administer if a student needs them during the school day. The medications include ibuprofen, acetaminophen, Benadryl, and cough drops. If you anticipate your student needing one of these medications more than 3 times during the school year, please send in a supply. If your child needs cough drops on a regular basis, please send in their own to keep with their classroom teacher. As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns.
Thank you! Karen Wright, RN
Global School Play Day 2015
Global School Play Day 2015
A Day of Promoting the Importance of Regular Play for The Best Development of Children
On February 4, 2015, is the launch of the first annual Global School Play Day for students in schools around the world, grades Pre-K to 6 or ages 1-12. In his book Free to Learn and through his TEDx talk, Dr. Peter Gray clearly argues the case that today's kids do not grow up playing and this has negatively impacted them in many ways. It's time we return the gift of play to this generation.
How Does it Work At Cumberland Elementary School?
1. EDUCATE: CRES will be promoting and educating our students about the benefits and necessity of play. Through discussion and interactions we will together see the importance of healthy play skills.
2. CALL FOR TOYS: Students are to bring anything they wish to play with to school on Wednesday, February 4th. The only restrictions: they must bring toys and these toys may NOT require batteries or electricity. No devices! Some ideas of toys to bring in: board games, dolls, Legos, blocks, trucks, cars, racetracks, playing cards, jigsaw puzzles, social games (charades, Pictionary, etc.) The only exception on the electronics rule would be a board game that has an electronic timer, an electronics play kit, or similar.
3. PLAY: On February 4, CRES will do the following: Allow students to spread their toys out around the room and just PLAY! If weather permits, classes will have an opportunity to go outdoors as well.
Let's spread the word about the benefits of play. If you are wondering why CRES has chosen to participate in this event we can simply tell you this, "...because kids have forgotten how to play!"
To learn more about this event go to http://globalschoolplayday.com/ and find out more about how important play is in your child’s life. CRES encourages you to make play an important in your child’s development. Creativity and creative play skills have far-reaching effects in the development of the mind and body.
The CRES Read-a-Thon is Back!!!
All students will have the opportunity to participate in the CRES Read-a-Thon, which is a fundraiser for our CRES library in just a few weeks! I will be explaining the Read-a-Thon to students next week. Please watch for packets with information and directions to come home in Monday folders on Monday, February 2nd. The actual Read-a-Thon will take place during the week of February 8-14. Kids, get ready to read, read, read! J

11th ANNUAL YMCA WORLD FAIR - YOU'RE INVITED
1,000,000 POP TABS for RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE!
1,000,000 POP TABS for RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE!
The students at CRES have started a project for Riley Hospital/Ronald McDonald House. Our goal is to collect one million pop tabs! (one pound= 1000 pop tabs) Water jugs have been placed in all five grade levels-4th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st and Kindergarten/Early Childhood. Please send your pop tabs from aluminum cans in a box or bag with your child any day to school. Ask your neighbors and relatives to save them too! We are proud that CRES is helping to ‘pick up the tab’ for needed funds to support Indiana’s only “home away from home” for families of seriously ill or injured children receiving treatment.
To many, a pop tab is just a piece of aluminum with one purpose – to open a can. But to the Ronald McDonald House of Indiana, the pop tab is a valuable resource. Why? Collected pop tabs are recycled, generating much-needed funds to support the House and the nearly 1,900 families they serve each year.
Collecting tabs is a great way for all of us to really make a difference in lives of families and children in need-not to mention learning about the importance of recycling. THANK YOU for your support.
