Penngrove Press
August 3rd, 2022
Thank you to all who were able to attend Back to School Night for coming and learning about the exciting year in store for your child(ren)! It was nice to have so many people on campus and share in the excitement of a new school year.
I look forward to seeing you all this Friday evening for our ice cream social from 6-7pm! I have to take this opportunity to thank our fabulous PTA for all of their hard work helping get the year off to a great start and doing all they can to make school a magical experience for all our students.
It has been so much fun getting to know the students of Penngrove! Getting the hugs, smiles, high fives, and greetings make my day.
As we are settling into the routines of school, some of the novelty may be wearing off for your kiddos. You may see an increase in some undesired behaviors, and this is to be expected. Just do your best to get them the rest and nutrition they need, and have some fun as a family after work and school.
One last exciting announcement! Please join me in welcoming to our new Penngrove Senior Secretary! Jessica comes to use with years of experience, enthusiasm and dedication. Read below to learn more about Penngrove's newest edition!
Stay awkward, brave and kind!
Welcome to Jessica Marcy, Penngrove's new Senior Secretary!
I am returning to Petaluma City Schools after a four year break to raise my daughter, Adalynn. She is also new to Penngrove Elementary School, and we are both thrilled to be a part of this community!
A few fun facts about me - I was a cheerleader in high school and college, I received my BA in theatre at Cal Poly Pomona, and I recently served as the President of the Petaluma Mother’s Club.
When I’m not working, you can find me camping with my family in our travel trailer, barbecuing and relaxing in our backyard, or riding a bike/walking through my neighborhood - usually with my labradoodle in tow.
I am definitely a social butterfly who loves meeting new people, and I cannot wait to get to know the students, staff, and parents.
Please stop by the office sometime to say hello!
This Friday - the PTA will hold its first Student PTA meeting of the year durning school.
Be sure to ask your PTA Panther all about it-
what they got to vote on, what inside scoops they heard & more!
Is your student not yet a member? It’s fast, easy & only $5 to sign up for a student membership!
PennStaff Spotlight!
Question of the week from Principal Harp
Each week, I will be sending out a question with which you will be given the opportunity to engage in a new conversation with your child. We all know how hard it is to draw out responses other than, "nothing" or "fine" when we ask "What did you do today?" or "How was school?" Be sure to use open ended follow-up questions and statements such as "Tell me more about that!" or "What did you think of that?" Please ask your student(s) the question below, share their response with us and make our day! You can submit more than one response! (No need to put names or identifying words.)
Click the above image to answer this week's question!
What is one thing you did this week that was brave?

The Petaluma Sunrise Rotary Club is reaching out to schools in the Petaluma area who have participated in our Dictionary Project program for third graders. We are trying to gauge the effectiveness of the program as well as the interest in continuing the project in the future.
We would really appreciate you taking this brief survey. The results will guide our efforts of funding literacy programs in Petaluma.

Garden class is off to a super fun start! We have been doing an epic team build with 4/5/6 graders check out the pictures and ask your student about it. Our first day back, Monday August 1st, was both the official start day of the beginning of the harvest season and there was rain! Super cool. The younger grades are starting off with garden scavenger hunt tours and expectations. Then we will be moving right away into studying butterfly lifecycles. We will also be filling the raised beds that were completed over the summer work days and putting Fall garden plants in a little late but better than never! In addition to all that we are harvesting our summer plants, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, blackberries, green beans and pears for tastings in the garden. I can’t wait to welcome TK and K classes to garden for the very first time on Friday!!
Please use our awesome new sign up doc to volunteer during your child's class time-
Volunteering on a weekly basis is amazing and creates a stability and routine that is very valuable for me and the students, however if you can only make it once or twice a month we would love to have you! It is really special to get to know your students classmates and spend time together at school. I really appreciate all our amazing volunteers you all make our program amazing.
We have a fundraising opportunity right now with Flower Power bulbs, our GEE program will receive 50% of your purchase price if you would like to buy bulbs or seeds for your home garden or gifts. There will also be a holiday version later with Amaryllis and such for winter gifts.
Visit this link: http://PenngroveGardenProgram.fpfundraising.com to visit our website.
I hope you all are enjoying the start of the harvest with blackberries, Gravenstein apples, pears, apricots, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, summer squash and anything else that is ready this time of the season. What are you growing at home? Come share with us during your volunteer time! Happy gardening!
With gratitude,
Ms. Ortiz

The upper parking lot is for ONLY staff, disabled plaque holders and raffle winners. Staff have assigned spots- and parking passes are issued to vehicles that belong in the staff lot.
If you do not have a pass, you should not enter.
This includes parking up the hill to the left of the family lot, near the office.
(If you are using the staff lot to pick up your student in the YMCA after 3:30, that is ok.)
We are also lucky to have the Student PTA! That's right, we offer student memberships for only $5. Student members have their own meetings on campus, during school & get to vote on lots of fun stuff that will impact them directly. The Friends of Penngrove PTA Executive Board is made up of Penngrove parents of a wide variety- some are parents of 5th graders, and some have kids in Kindergarten. We are here to support #TeamPenn, the #PennPanthers, and you- and we are super friendly! We hope you'll get your membership today <3
