Return to School Survey
Hybrid Learning Transition and Selection
Franklin Pierce Schools is planning for students to return to school for in-person instruction this Fall. In order to transition to hybrid learning in a safe manner, we will use a phased approach to welcome students back into buildings. This will include a combination of in-person and remote learning, cohorts to reduce the number of students that gather in one place, and a phased return protocol that allows students that require the most support to return to school sooner. All schools will adhere to health and safety guidelines including 6-foot social distancing, wearing face coverings, hand washing and sanitizing, and daily health attestations. Buildings will be cleaned and disinfected throughout the day.

2020-2021 Learning Model Overview
Hybrid Learning Option
Initially, the students in the hybrid learning model will receive in-person instruction a minimum of two full days/week. Some students may qualify to receive additional in-person services based on their unique learning supports (youngest learners, students with disabilities, students experiencing homelessness, students receiving English Language services, students receiving LAP/Title 1 services). All students will be assigned a cohort by their school, but families will be able to request a cohort reassignment. The FPS Hybrid Learning Option consists of different learning components:
- In-person learning: Assigned students participate in in-person learning at the school site a minimum of two days/week.
- Teacher-led online learning: Assigned students participate in teacher-led online learning during a set time.
- Teacher-directed independent learning: Assigned students participate in pre-established learning activities on their own time.
Full-Remote Learning Option
Students and families that do not wish to return for in-person instruction will have the ability to continue to learn remotely. Like the current remote learning plan, students will participate in a combination of teacher led (online instruction during a set time) and teacher directed (learning activities to be completed by students on their own time). Students and families should note that they will likely have a different teacher than their current one if they select the full-remote learning option. Students will be able to transition from remote learning to hybrid learning if there is capacity in the school/class. There may be some secondary courses that will not be available in the full-remote learning option.
Hybrid/Full-remote Learning Selection
In order to plan for the transition toward hybrid learning, we ask all students and families to state their intended learning option (full remote or hybrid) preference by Monday, September 28. This will allow us to determine classes, staffing, health and safety protocols and transportation options. Students will be able to transition from one learning option to the other if there is capacity to do so.
