Principal’s Message
Thank you to all the families who joined us for our first ever Family STEM Night! We had so much fun exploring STEM with all of you. Because this event was so successful, we plan to host two per year starting in the 2019-2020 school year. If you didn't join us this time, be sure to join for the next one!
St. Mary School is co-accredited by WCEA and WASC. To better understand why this is so important for your child's education, please read WASC's Mission:
"Through ACS WASC’s evaluation of institutions, ACS WASC accreditation assures the educational community, the general public, and other organizations and agencies that an institution has clearly defined objectives appropriate to education; has established conditions under which their achievement can reasonably be expected; appears in fact to be accomplishing them substantially; is so organized, staffed, and supported that it can be expected to continue to do so; and demonstrates that it meets ACS WASC’s criteria and accreditation standards. ACS WASC encourages and supports institutional development and improvement through an institutional self-evaluation using the accreditation criteria and policies, as well as mid-cycle, follow-up, and special reports, and periodic evaluation of institutional quality by qualified peer professionals."
The staff have worked hard to prepare our WCEA/WASC document, and I am happy to report that we had a wonderful WCEA/WASC Previsit this past Tuesday, February 19th. The team was very impressed by all that we have done in the past few years, and we look forward to our full visit with them on March 19-21st.
As part of the process, the school is supposed to determine 5 critical goals that will help to increase student achievement. The 5 goals defined in our document are:
- Fully implement the Blended Learning Model, ensuring that the adaptive curriculum data is used to inform instruction and personalize the learning for all students
- Create vertically-aligned, coherent curriculums across all grade levels
- Transition to standards-referenced grading and report cards in order to better communicate attainment of the standards and graduate profile (SLEs) to both students and parents
- Improve data collection and analysis processes beyond STAR and ACRE
- Create more impactful service opportunities for students to build upon their relationship with Christ and grow in their faith
Additionally, we completed an in-depth report in the area of English language arts, and we identified the following goal:
- Improve students’ argumentative writing abilities
Be sure to register your child for the 2019-2020 school year by this Thursday, February 28th. Registration rates go up on March 1st. Secondly, if you are interested in applying for tuition assistance, the application process closes on Thursday, February 28th. They do not accept late applications.

Box Tops Collection
Please note that all Box Tops are due by this coming Wednesday, Feb. 27. This is our final chance at meeting our goal for the 2018-2019 school year. So please check your kitchen cupboards & pantries. Ask family, friends, neighbors and co-workers to do the same. Every single Box Top counts! Please drop off Box Tops at the school office or in the collection container in your children’s classroom. Let’s rally together and get as many as possible. In doing so, we are raising money for our school and contributing to a most worthwhile cause, our children. Don’t forget, we’ll have a school-wide ice cream party if we meet our goal!
Thank you so much for your support,
Leone O'Neal
