whs diversity council
Watertown High School is developing a diversity council that will meet regularly to discuss issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are looking for parent representation on the council and are asking YOU to apply :-)
At Watertown High School we define diversity as:
A series of identities including differing abilities, socio-economic backgrounds, ethnicities, national origins, gender identities, languages, races, religions, and sexual orientations.
Meetings will take place approximately once per month. We will have 10 total members on the council to include: 2 parents/caregivers, 4 students (1 from each grade, ideally), 2 teachers, 1 administrator, 1 support staff
We will work to:
Embrace and support an inclusive school culture focused on anti-racism.
Support educators and District staff in fostering anti-bias and anti-racist practices.
Create opportunities to foster relationships and engage other groups to have conversations around anti-racism, equity, and inclusion.
Please reply to joel.giacobozzi@watertown.k12.ma.us with your information including Name, Student’s name, and reason for wanting to join the Diversity Council.
Your student is invited to travel to England & Ireland in 2023!
Dear Watertown families,
I’m excited to announce that Watertown HS students are being offered an international educational experience to England & Ireland in April 2023 with Ms. Erin McGovern.
Many of you likely attended the meeting but we wanted to make sure that everyone had access to learn more and enroll through this link: www.eftours.com/2481058XB. There are limited spots available on this trip, so please make sure to enroll while there is still space. EF is offering a $100 off for everyone who signs up by June 1st. They are also offering a risk-free enrollment period for all travelers signing up by June 1st as well. For those of you who are holding vouchers from previous trips, this could be a great option to apply the funds to future travel.
If you have further questions on the details, please reach out to Ms. McGovern at: erin.mcgovern@watertown.k12.ma.us
We know that when students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world around them, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. By taking part in this experience, students will be given the chance to step outside their comfort zone, experience a new culture, and see the world from a different perspective. These skills are critical for creating the global citizens of tomorrow, and I would love to have your student participate on this adventure.
-Erin McGovern
