Constitution Day 9/17

This Saturday, September 17th is Constitution Day, where we reflect back on the historic moment when 39 delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the United States Constitution outlining the responsibilities of our democratic-republic. Although the United States Constitution has experienced numerous changes over the years known as Amendments, and its interpretation is still debated by justices, politicians, and scholars alike, at its core is a system of government that gives the American voter the right to elect representatives who intern, govern through the will of the people. This is a great responsibility that should not be taken for granted. For generations, people from all over the world have come to America fleeing religious, political, and cultural persecucion with the hopes of living in a country that values and protects this very right. It is no surprise then, that this day is also known as Citizenship Day, when naturalized Americans celebrate their citizenship and right to participate in that government.

As we reflect back on America’s young history, we highlight our nation's triumphs and failures, many of which are the result of the will of the people. This Saturday envision the type of country you would like to help shape and consider how your civic engagement can help lead to positive change.
