Your Input: Move to More In-Person Learning
Dear D34 Families,
As you may have heard, the District is planning for a move to “adapted in person” environment on or before April 12. At that time, the District will return to a regular five-day schedule of in-person learning. GOAL remote learning will remain an option for those who do not wish to attend in person. There will no longer be a hybrid option.
As a reminder, “adapted in person” is defined as an environment in which “a majority of students attend school in person daily with recommended safety measures. Online options are available for those who need them.” We cannot yet plan for a return to a pre-pandemic environment.
We know you have questions about health and safety protocols, scheduling and assignments, lunch, transportation, and more, and that you can provide us with valuable insight. To help us make this transition as smooth as possible for all students, families and staff, please take this short survey. We hope to gain a clear understanding of preferences for in-person or remote learning (GOAL), what structures, supports and protocols we need to have in place, and the type of information you need to make a decision.
Your response to this survey is not a binding selection. We will clearly communicate when and how you will make your selection in PowerSchool in the coming weeks. District and building leaders will use the data in this survey to inform our decisions and guide our communication and outreach to families to ensure that you have all the information you need to make a final decision.
Please take this survey for each child who attends District 34 schools. The survey will close on Tuesday, March 2 at noon.
Have you completed the 5 Essentials Parent Survey yet?
Your input on this statewide survey -- given to parents of all students throughout the state of Illinois -- helps us improve our schools for our students. As a parent, taking the survey will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness. The statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey is administered for the Illinois State Board of Education by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:
- Effective Leaders
- Collaborative Teachers
- Involved Families
- Supportive Environments
- Ambitious Instruction
Prior research in more than 400 schools shows that schools strong on at least 3 of the 5 Essentials are 10 times more likely to improve student outcomes.
Please click here to take the parent survey. We ask that you take the survey for each school in which you have a child. We will be pleasantly persistent in the coming weeks as we hope to reach 100% participation before the survey closes on April 2nd, 2021.
