Kansas and MAP Assessments
The window for the Kansas Assessment is April 1st - May 7th
The window for the MAP Assessments is April 19th - May 18th
As you can see, there will be some overlap for those that are taking both. I will do my best to spread it out and not have us testing the last week of the school year. :)
The Kansas Assessment Schedule is attached and I will be working on the MAP assessment next week!
Drill Week!
- Monday, March 8th at about 1:55 - Fire Drill
- Wednesday, March 10th directly following announcements - Tornado Drill
- At some point next week - ALICE Drill
*For the ALICE drill, please do the following:
As we did with the "A" and "L" in ALICE in the Fall, we are going to review "I" with the students. Please find a time that works for you in your class, but the expectation is that it is done at some point this coming week.
Please plan on going over the following with your students:
Our safety drill for this month is to review one option of our ALICE procedure.
Who remembers what A and L stand for? Alert and Lockdown is correct. What does alert and lockdown mean?
Our safety drill for this month is to review one option of our ALICE procedure.
Who remembers what "I" stands for? Inform is correct. What are some ways we might be “informed” or find out something unsafe is occurring in our school? Let students share their thoughts first. Possible responses and things to reinforce with students are:
- Announcements over the intercom
- Radio call from another classroom
- Screaming or yelling
- Loud unknown noises
- A student may see something and then say something
- Popping sounds (this is one we would only address if brought up by a student). As a district we would not present gunfire, however by letting students give responses it is likely it could be shared. In that event, a response such as yes, popping sounds or gunfire would be one example and if that were the case you would want to be listening very carefully to the adults directions in order to stay safe.
If you want to show the video before or after you go over this, you can click on the following:
The video is optional, but might give your students a chance to review ALICE.
Please let me know if you have any questions in regards to this.

OPS COVID Vaccine Update
Thank you for your patience as we work through the vaccination of our staff. We are continuing to have great success with the vaccination clinics and are grateful to our partners at Children’s Mercy Hospital and the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment. Between Feb 4- March 6 we will have provided 3,119 Olathe employees a 1st dose of the Pfizer vaccine. We are continuing our efforts to get vaccines to all staff. The county is hopeful that we will have all first dose clinics complete for Johnson County school district staff by April 1. At this time, we only have the Pfizer vaccine available at these clinics.
Please continue to check email diligently for an invitation from opscovidvaccine@olatheschools.org. It is important to know that there may be times when emails are sent in the evening or on weekends, due to the short notice of when vaccines are available. We WILL do a last call/all call for all educational staff to sign-up for the last clinic when we have finished eligible employees by age.
Thank you again for your patience. We are thrilled to be able to offer this vaccine to our staff.
March 22nd Professional Development Day
Our professional development for March 22nd will be as follows:
- AM (8:00 - 11:30) Educator Prep and also considered flex
- PM (12:30 - 4:00) Building Focused - We will be taking some time to review some resources from our technology department. This will be self (or PLC) driven and I will send this out next week.
Dismissal Reminders
With the weather getting nicer, we always have more students that change up their dismissal routines.
Please do us a favor and help with the following:
1. If you have a sub, please make sure that the dismissal plans for each child are clear. A suggestion is possibly printing the pictures of the kids from synergy and writing the dismissal plans by each child. Once done, place in the sub folder.
3. Please review all purple and blue notes that are attached to the door to confirm that they have the correct date on there and it is for the day of the dismissal change. Let the office know ASAP if something is wrong. Please make sure that this is a clear expectation for subs.
4. Everyone that is helping with dismissal, should have your radio on and with you. Please leave the main communication to the leaders in each area, but if we are looking for a student or something is occurring, please speak up!

Mastery Connect
Just a reminder that we need to keep this fresh on our brains since we will be hitting the ground running with this in the Fall. Please work with your grade level to ease yourself back into the routine of doing this in the 4th quarter.

Interventions on Synergy
Please make sure that you are putting this on synergy when you begin and then update this when you complete it. This should be done for any behavior or academic interventions.

Summer Conference Survey
As we plan for Summer Conference (both the 3-Day Conference and the Summer Learning Opportunities), we are seeking input about session topics and formats. We have placed a survey in the AIM. Thank you for sharing this information with your staff and encouraging their participation so that we may plan for the needs. Staff will need to log into their Office 365 account to access the survey.
