Cedar Crest Middle School
January 2024 Newsletter
Message from the Principal
Hello CCMS Falcon Families,
Happy New Year and welcome back to all of our families! We hope everyone had a well-deserved, restful and enjoyable winter break with family and friends.
The start of school after a significant time away, like Winter Break, provides a good opportunity to re-establish a focus on school expectations and learning. Together as we ring in the new year, it is a great time to reflect on the past and give the best of ourselves to the future. I am excited about the educational opportunities that await us in 2024, and I am confident that we will work together to support our students and staff to make Cedar Crest Middle School the best it can be. To ensure the success of our community, we will work as a team.
TEAMWORK
Coming together is a Beginning.
Keeping together is Progress.
Working together is Success.
-Henry Ford
I personally want to thank you all for your ongoing support of your child and our school community. I ask that you continue to be involved and active in your child's education. Remember that we can all make a difference if we work together!

Inclement Weather
The decision to close school for inclement weather, or to open two hours late, will be sent prior to 7 AM via Skylert phone and email message. Be sure to update your weather emergency contact information under the Skylert tab on the parent portal in order to receive calls and emails. Any emergency messages are sent via text messages; be sure to list a cellular phone number in the SMS section if you wish to receive these calls.
It also will be reported on local radio and TV stations, and posted to the CLSD district website, Facebook and X, formerly known as Twitter, pages. Parents should have a plan devised for their children if early dismissals occur and no one is home. Parents should discuss arrangements with their children prior to the day of dismissal; school telephones are busy and are needed for emergencies during situations of this type. Snow make-up days, in priority order are: 3/8/2024; 3/28/2024; 4/2/2024; 6/10/2024; 6/11/2024.

SNACK SHACK
The CCMS staff are so appreciative of your kind generosity in providing delicious treats in the Snack Shack. There are over 120 staff at CCMS, so, you can imagine the treats go quickly. We updated our Amazon Wish List with what went fast and seemed to be favorites. If you could so kindly, check out the wish list again and purchase something, whether it be on Amazon where it will be shipped directly to school, or when you are out and about and can add something extra to your order. We want the Snack Shack to be a treat for them when they need a pick-me -up all year round, so we need help keeping it stocked. Your generosity doesn’t go unnoticed, and we truly appreciate the support of our CCMS Staff!

Message from the Nurse
Parents of 6th Grade Students: The state of Pennsylvania mandates that every 6th grade student has a physical exam. If you have not already done so, please submit completed 6th grade physical forms to the nurse as soon as possible. Also, the Pennsylvania Department of Health mandates that all students show proof of having the Tdap and MCV vaccinations prior to the first day of their 7th grade year. Vaccination records may be viewed in Skyward.
Parents of 7th Grade Students: The state of Pennsylvania mandates that every 7th grade student has a dental exam. If you have not already done so, please submit completed 7th grade dental forms to the nurse as soon as possible. School dental exams are scheduled for Friday, February 2, 2024. If you would like your child to have a school dental exam, please contact the nurse’s office for a permission slip as soon as possible. Please note, the school dental exam is a visual exam only and does not include cleanings, preventative treatments, dental repairs, or x-rays.
Forms may be found on the CLSD website, under Services-Health Services. Completed forms and updated immunization records can be faxed to (717) 389-1858.
The Cornwall-Lebanon School District adopted the medication policy using the PA Department of Health guidelines. Per our school policy, medication consent forms must have a doctor’s signature in order for the nurse to give any medications to students at school (even if it is over the counter medications such as Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Tums, etc.). A parent or adult designee must transport all medications to and from school, however, cough drops are permitted to be carried by students.
Please call the nurse’s office with any questions or concerns at 717-389-1845.
