6th Grade World Language Selection for 21/22 School Year
As another option, students may choose a two-year Technology & Innovations course instead of a world language. Please note that students who choose this option will begin their world language at Level 1 upon entering the high school. It is important to note that any high school Level 1 language courses will require a minimum enrollment to run. If the minimum enrollment numbers are not met, then the Level 1 course will not be offered.
In order to begin the scheduling process for the 2021–2022 school year, each sixth-grade student must select a world language or technology & innovations class to study for the next two years. This is a very important decision, so we urge you to discuss your child’s choice with him/her. Remember that this is a two-year commitment.
Please click on the link below to indicate your child’s first, second, and third choices of World Language/Technology & Innovations.
Link to World Language/Technology & Innovations Selection form:
https://forms.gle/SC7toUWSgXm1tcfd6
All students must complete this form by Friday May 21st @ 3:00PM. The form can only be completed while logged into your child's PVSD account.
West Virtual Art Show
Dear Perkiomen Valley Parents, Guardians and Staff,
The Art Department proudly presents The 2021 Perkiomen Valley Middle School & High School Virtual Art Show! This is a Virtual Reality experience which all families in Perkiomen Valley can access via ArtSteps.com. The show features the artwork of 128 PVSD students from grades six through twelve. The artwork displayed was hand selected by both the middle school art teachers Mr. Bernholdt (East) and Ms. DiCicco (West), as well as the high school art teachers, Mr. Tom Komp, Mrs. Wendy Elser, and Mr. Bob Libby.
To access the show, use this link https://www.artsteps.com/view/606e00eefcc0d387bafe868b and sign in to the site using your email address. To navigate the site, you will use your mouse to double-click on the floor where you want to go. The blue footsteps icon will act as your cursor and wherever you click, the camera will take you to that point. To look around, you will need to left click and drag your mouse to rotate the view of the camera. You may also at any point, click in the lower left corner on the map which will take you to that specific spot.
Each artwork is interactive so if you would like to know more about the artist, medium, or grade level, click on the art and it will generate a secondary pop up window featuring this information. You will need to close this window when you are finished viewing.
After you have seen the show, please leave us a comment. The comment area is located underneath the show’s description. You may leave a message for one of the Art Department staff members or an artist that you know in the show.
Thank you for supporting The Visual Arts! We appreciate the hard work and dedication put forth by the students. This collection of work is a true testament to the resilience and determination the students of Perkiomen Valley School District have and will continue to have now and into the future.
Sincerely,
Ms. Marla DiCicco
Visual Arts Teacher, PVMS West

West News: Rocket Lab
Three…Two…One…BLAST-OFF! The students in Mrs. Colleen McGuigan’s sixth grade science classes were given the opportunity to construct and launch rockets of their own design as part of a unit on astronomy. The rocket engines were made from camera film canisters and loaded with Alka-Seltzer and water for fuel. After the launch, the students were asked to evaluate their rocket designs and analyze the variables that may have influenced their rocket’s launch. It was an exciting and educational experience for all.
Guitar Heroes
Seventh grade students in Mr. Sand's music classes were given the opportunity to channel their inner Hendrix by learning the basics of playing the guitar. The lesson included how to hold the instrument, how to strum and pick as well as some basic chords. Who knows! One of our novices could end up being the next Billie Eilish or Jeff Beck!
County 24 Competition
In 1988, successful inventor Robert Sun embarked on a journey to teach children the relationship between numbers through a game. The result of his efforts was the 24 Game, a unique mathematics teaching tool that has proven to successfully engage students in grades 1 through 9 from diverse economic and social backgrounds.
The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit hosts an annual Math 24 Tournament for 4th through 8th grade students. Four West students participated in the competition on Friday, May 14th. Eighth graders Jacob Loladze and Gianna Ashley and sixth graders Evan Martin and Siddharth Varman matched their math skills with students across Montgomery County via Zoom. Congratulation to our amazing mathematicians! You make us PV Proud!

Counseling Corner - May is Mental Health Awareness Month
Mental illnesses affect 19% of the adult population, 46% of teenagers and 13% of children each year. People struggling with their mental health may be in your family, live next door, teach your children, work in the next cubicle or sit in the same church pew.
However, only half of those affected receive treatment, often because of the stigma attached to mental health. Untreated, mental illness can contribute to higher medical expenses, poorer performance at school and work, fewer employment opportunities and increased risk of
A mental illness is a physical illness of the brain that causes disturbances in thinking, behavior, energy or emotion that make it difficult to cope with the ordinary demands of life. Research is starting to uncover the complicated causes of these diseases which can include genetics, brain chemistry, brain structure, experiencing trauma and/or having another medical condition, like heart disease.
