FIELD DAY
Penny Road Field Day is coming soon & we need many volunteers!
Wednesday, June 7th grades K-1
Thursday, June 8th Grades 2-5
Plan to spend a fun-filled morning or afternoon with your child. Field Day is a day of fun and games to celebrate the end of the school year for your child(ren) and is one of the children’s favorite days of the year. We need at least 40 volunteers per session to make this a success. This is our biggest volunteer need all year. Volunteers will help direct the children through the games or help with refreshments. Your part is easy – no athletic skills required. All the children participate – so you’ll be sharing your time with your child as they pass through the game you are helping with.
We need one or two special volunteers for each session to be our water person. This special position will be responsible for hooking up hoses, filling up the water containers at the water stations, making sure all water stations have a continuing supply of water during field day times and gathering the hoses on Friday afternoon at the completion of field day events. Please email cmartin@wpcss.net if you are interested in serving in this role. It is desperately needed!
Parents are welcome to stop by and watch but we may recruit you to volunteer! Please understand that the field activities and snacks are for current Penny Road students, teachers and volunteers only. Thank you for understanding.
*We are asking for donations of bottled water to keep all of our volunteers well-hydrated. Please drop all donations off in the gym by Tuesday, June 6th.
Fill out the slip linked below and return it to school by June 5th OR go to Konstella to sign-up.
Questions? Contact Amy Toland at Tolandfam@gmail.com or cmartin@wcpss.net

YEARBOOKS!!
Good Luck at World Finals, Team MindMasters!
One of our PRE Odyssey of the Mind teams, Team MindMasters, will be competing in the World Finals tournament this week at Michigan State! Only the top two teams from each category at the state tournaments move on to the World Competition each year and our Team MindMasters did just that! PRE has the only elementary team in Wake County Public Schools going to World Finals! WOW!
In addition to "spontaneous problem solving", this team was required to construct three very specific structures, a balsa structure, as well as two other structures made from recycled materials, and then pull them together through performance that aligns with the theme. Team members have been working together on the weekends and during the week for months in preparation, and the team receives points for team work, creativity, the engineering design of the structure and the weight it holds, as well as their ability to solve their overall "problem". This team's creativity and enthusiasm for the Odyssey of the Mind program has been amazing!
The MindMasters Team includes: Brady Rhodes, Brower Evenhouse, Charlie Vickery, Brody Cox, Lindsey Whorton, Liam Taylor, and Jordan Sides, who all are 4th and 5th graders here at Penny Road. Congratulations to each of you. We are so proud of you, your work, dedication and creativity!
A HUGE thank you to all the parents who have been so supportive and involved, but especially to the parent COACHES who have given tirelessly to this program and team: Amanda and Steven Rhodes and Elizabeth Vickery. THANK YOU!
