WSMS Principal Newsletter

November 16, 2022

Willow Parents,

We hope that you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break. As a reminder, school will be closed all week next week as we observe the Thanksgiving Holiday and we will return to school on Monday, November 28. Please be sure to check your students grades on Friday in powerschool for the 6 week check in. When we return from break, your student will have about three weeks to bring up any grades that need to be brought up by the end of the semester. We will have Semester Exams the last week of school before the Winter Holiday.

Lastly, the Lovejoy ISD Green Team is doing a cold weather clothing drive if you have any cold weather items you would like to donate. Donations will be accepted at any campus through 11/18. Again, we wish you all a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving Break.

WSMS Principal

Lost & Found Items - Donating Friday, November 18th

Once again our Lost & Found is getting very full. Any items remaining in Lost and Found will be donated on Friday, November 18th. Please encourage your students to stop by to see if any of their items might be in there.

WSMS Yearbook Needs Your Help

Yearbook staff needs your help. Click here for the "First Times" Yearbook Google Form. This form is for WSMS students to fill out about their first time-going to a concert, trying exotic food, public speaking, travelling, and other fun first time experiences.

Please ask your child to complete it and email photos to or or the students can text photos to: Kaitlyn Wall (number is on the Google Form).

This is a great opportunity for WSMS kids to be featured in the yearbook in a fun and unique way.

Final Exams December 12th - 16th

Final exams will officially begin, Monday, December 12th. Teachers are expected to provide students with final exam reviews by Friday, December 2nd. In addition, all final exam reviews will be loaded on the WSMS website on December 7th (under both student and parent) and teachers will upload exam reviews into their Google Classrooms. Please encourage your son or daughter to begin working on their final exam reviews early. As they begin to study, encourage them to study every night in short 15-20 minute increments rather than “cramming” the night before the test. Research shows that students who study in small chunks of time over a period of days are more successful on assessments.

We will be sending out more information about middle school final exams over the next two weeks.

Academic UIL

Academic UIL competition is on the horizon, and we are looking forward to attending this year's competition on March 31 & April 1 The competition will be held at Heritage Middle School, which is located at 5300 Heritage Avenue, Colleyville, TX 76034.

All students in grades 7 and 8 are eligible to try out for a team. Students may compete in as many events as they would like as long as the events they enter compete at different times during the competition day. Tryouts for the competitions will occur shortly after we return from Winter Break. Students who make the team will begin practices as determined by the team coach. Practice days and times will vary with each competition. Please click here for a list of events and their descriptions. If you have any questions, please contact Joseph Washburn (
