Dr. Koop's Newsletter
October 7, 2022
Dear Parents/Guardians,
What a gorgeous fall day! This week was full of activities and conversations about respecting ourselves and others. We began Respect Week with a fantastic assembly about inclusion, featuring Logan Marmino and KRS parent Joy Suprano, two of the stars from the Apple+ series Best Foot Forward. By the conclusion of Respect Week, every KRS student and staff member signed the KRS No Place for Hate pledge which is displayed near the multi-purpose room. KRS is a No Place for Hate School. For information about the No Place for Hate program, check out their website.
Last night I attended a FANTASTIC PTO meeting facilitated by PTO Co-Presidents Mrs. DiPaola and Mrs. Malafronte. The meeting was productive and fun! In attendance, were amazing, supportive, KRS parents in person and on Zoom. The PTO is a critical part of what makes KRS such a special place for the students, teachers, and staff. I am deeply grateful for the support of the KRS PTO!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
Sincerely,
Dr. Kathy Koop

KRS Cougar Reading Challenge
The 2022-23 KRS COUGAR READING CHALLENGE BEGAN SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1!
This year-long reading challenge is completely optional and a fun way to get our students reading at home!
Each month, students should keep track of how many minutes they are reading at home on this calendar.
Those minutes can include reading you are doing for reading logs, homework, minutes spent listening to an audiobook or read aloud on the computer (such as bookflix), or minutes spent being read to by an adult. This is not an extra assignment- If you are reading for homework, include that reading here too!
Each month, there are different challenges to complete that can earn you an extra 100 minutes to add to your total!
At the end of the month, add up all of your minutes!

News from Madison Education Foundation
This fall, we launched the Meffie Awards, co-sponsored by the Rotary Club of Madison, to celebrate innovation in teaching in our schools. Six winning MEF grants from the 2021-2022 school year were selected, one from each school plus one district-wide grant. In all, eight educators were honored with a certificate, plaque, and $250 grant to invest in their classrooms. Congratulations to our amazing educators!
We're able to fund our educators’ big ideas because of your generosity. Have you made your annual MEF donation yet? To learn more about the Meffie Awards and to make a tax-deductible donation, visit www.mefnj.org.
