WCJH Library News!

It's Book Fair Time!

Our fall book fair will start on November 18th. Students will be able to come in with their classes to preview and purchase books and trinkets. The link below also lets you preview the book fair. A new item is the Book Fair e-wallet for parents to pre-load an account with a selected amount of funds. These book fairs allow the school to bring in authors and provide reading enhancement activities for all to enjoy.

Katy ISD SpeakUP for Safe Schools

This school year, Katy ISD launched its SpeakUP app, an anonymous reporting tool, along with the SpeakUP for Safe Schools informational campaign. This campaign consists of brief, two-minute informational videos on topics impacting youth such as vaping, social media hoax threats, and bullying. These videos will be shown to our students over the coming weeks, and we are sharing them with you here. We will share a different one each week over a three-week period.

The SpeakUP for Safe Schools informational campaign also includes the Legacy Parent Academy, which is made up of sessions that address subject matters important to our district's parents, including ones similar to those in these videos. Please click the link here for more information on the Parent Academy.

Vaping: It's Up To You

Speak Up to our Teachers and Staff!

Teachers and staff at WoodCreek Junior High want students to know that they can come to them if they are being bullied, teased or harassed. The video below are the stories that some of our teachers and staff have from when they were in school and they want students to know that they care and are listening when students come to them. Our students are worth it!

Spanish for Spanish Speakers Assessment

In an effort to provide information in advance of course selection and planning for next year, the Spanish for Spanish Speakers placement testing process will occur in the fall semester.

The Spanish for Spanish Speakers placement test will be given to 7th grade students who have indicated Spanish as the home language on the Home Language Survey. The purpose of this test is to identify students eligible to participate in the Spanish for Spanish Speakers Program. This course of study is designed for proficient Spanish speakers and allows four credits of Spanish to be earned in two academic years while in high school or two credits in junior high. This assessment is for placement purposes only and does not award credit for any course.

This assessment will take place at WCJH on December 4, 2019 during the school day. Letters will be sent home for students that have already been identified, and no further action is required unless you do not want your child tested.

If you do not received a letter and would like your child to participate in the assessment please contact Kodi Holmes at KodiLHolmes@katyisd.org before December 2, 2019.
