Perth Road Public School Reorganization Notice
The Elementary Staffing Committee met last week to review enrolment numbers across the Limestone District School Board and to determine which schools would need to re-organize due to increases or decreases in enrolment. At that meeting, it was decided that Perth Road PS would reorganize with one less class due to a lower than expected number of students enrolled at Perth Road PS this fall. This means that we will have to adjust our classes and organize with 11 rather than 12 classrooms. As a result, it will be necessary to make some classroom placement changes for some of our students. Our organization will be as follows:
JK/SKA
JK/SKB
Grade 1
Grade 1/2
Grade 2/3
Grade 3/4
Grade 4
Grade 5
Grade 6
Grade 7
Grade 8
In order to make the transition as smooth as possible, we would like to share the timeline we must follow, our plan to implement the necessary changes with as little disruption for our students as possible and how, together, we can support our students.
Over the next few days we will be confirming teaching assignments and student placements, however we did not want to wait to let you know that this reorganization is taking place in the hope that you can begin to prepare your child/children for the possibility of changing classes. To help with this effort, I will visit all classes over the next two days and explain, in an age-appropriate way, what reorganization means and how students could be affected. We will send a letter home on Thursday afternoon indicating your child’s name, his/her class and teacher under the new organization. Every student will receive an envelope regardless if he/she is changing classes or not. It is our hope that if every child receives a letter, no child will feel centred out or anxious. All students will transition to their new classes on Friday at the end of the day so that on Monday when students return to school, everything is in order and ready for them to begin in their new classes with their new teachers.
We believe that you are in the best position to explain to your child what is happening and how he/she will be affected. Children may react differently and we recognize that you know your children best and are in the best position to help your children understand why changes are necessary. We understand that this is not an ideal situation however it is a reality for many schools every September. I want to assure you that we will do our very best to make this as stress-free and positive as possible for our students and ensure a smooth transition for everyone. Our experience is that students quickly acclimatize to their new class and the learning carries on effectively.
Please know how much we appreciate your support through this process. Together, I know our students will feel supported and I am confident that they will continue to have a great year at school. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your cooperation and support.
Sincerely,
Allison Croth
