Catholic Schools Week Mass Photos by Montie Chavez
On Wed February 1st, our 8th graders traveled to St. Anthony of Padua/ St. Francis for an All Catholic Schools Mass.
This event returned to the calendar for the first time since 2020 (before the pandemic).
This Mass was celebrated by Bishop Leo Thomas and Con-celebrated by all Parish Priests. After Mass, our Superintendent addressed the children (and their families) thanking them for their commitment to Catholic education and inviting them to let their light shine as they journey forward to graduation.
Following Mass, all students gathered for donuts and socializing! We are grateful to Bishop Leo Thomas for prioritizing this Mass and his time with our students!

This musical theatre classic is set in the Pale of Settlement of Imperial Russia around 1905, and centers on Tevye, a milkman in the village of Anatevka, who attempts to maintain his Jewish religious and cultural traditions as outside influences encroach upon his family's lives. He must cope with the strong-willed actions of his three older daughters who wish to marry for love; their choices of husbands are successively less palatable for Tevye. Music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and book by Joseph Stein.

We Need Your Help!
The home and school must work together to safeguard the health and welfare of the child and prevent the exposure and spread of illnesses. A parent should keep a child home when any symptoms of a contagious disease are apparent.
Reminder:
Please do not medicate your student before school to lower his/her temperature and then send your student to school.
A fever is the body's response to fighting infection, and your student needs time to rest and recuperate. It is important to keep your student home when sick for 24 hours after they no longer have a fever or signs of a fever (chills, feeling very warm, flushed appearance, or sweating) without the use of fever-reducing medicine.
For further review and guidance, please refer to pages 39 & 40 in the Parent/Student Handbook which goes over St. Viator School's Health/Safety Protocols (Contagious Disease Control, Illness at School, Health Room Visits, Medications).
Feel Empowered
When we see our kids get angry, the first thing we think is that we have to stop them from being angry and we had better hurry up and find the cause of this big emotion. However, anger is a good thing. It is a BIG emotion, but it helps us answer basic questions: What would we like more of? What would we like to stop?
Anger is just a part of being human and if you remind yourself of this, it will help you respond with compassion and not judgement.
One helpful tip is to help your child develop an emotional vocabulary. If a child can identify and label the feeling, they can then begin to talk about what they’re going through. This works for adults too – wink, wink. You can also try giving them a “mood meter” or “feeling thermometer” to help them rate the intensity of their feelings. These levels can then be utilized to determine a method to regulate the intense emotion. Level one might only need some breathing exercises, while level five might need deeper exploration and methods. Whatever strategy you decide to practice with your child, it’s important to validate their feelings and help them find tools to calm down. This will help your child to feel empowered rather than out of control.
Sometimes we feel like we need to shield our kids from these emotions, but helping them to open up and find healthy ways to deal with anger will benefit them for their entire lives. Let me know if you need some help in this area. And remember, this is good for us older kids as well.
Blessings to you,
Monica
