High School Sports to Begin Again: Message from the Athletics Department
On Friday, January 22, Governor Cuomo announced that High Risk Sports (basketball, hockey, wrestling, competitive cheer, football, volleyball and boys lacrosse) in NYS can begin practices and contests with the approval from the local Department of Health starting February 1.
On Monday, January 25, the SCAC finalized the remaining adjusted season dates. They wanted to maximize seasons, without much overlap and also allow for a great spring season that was lost last year.
Please note – because there is a 1 week overlap from winter to fall and then fall to spring; for those 5 days kids can’t practice for both sports in different seasons but, up to 3 practices will be counted toward the next sports required number of practices.
The seasons dates include the following sports:
- Extended Winter (February 1, 2021 thru March 13, 2021) -Basketball, Hockey, Wrestling, Cheer
- Fall 2 (March 8, 2021 thru April 24, 2021) – Football, Volleyball, Cheer, Girls Swim
- Spring (April 19, 2021 thru June 12, 2021) – Baseball, B/G Lacrosse, Softball, B/G Track, G-Golf, B-Tennis
Any question please contact the West Genesee Athletics Department Office at 315-487-4560.
Mark Your Calendars: Board of Education to Host a Listening Session
The West Genesee Central School District Board of Education (BOE) invites parents, staff, community members, and students to a Community Listening Session.
It will be held in the West Genesee High School Library on Wednesday, February 3, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. (prior to the BOE meeting that will start at 7:00 p.m.) The guiding question for this is: "What are your hopes and dreams for WGCSD?" Please consider joining this session and offering your thoughts.
Those who would like to come to the Library and participate will need to pre-register by filling out the RSVP from the invitation here. This will allow us to track participant numbers. Depending on how many register and the capacity we can have in the Library, we will put in place a plan for overflow (i.e satellite rooms). It will also be livestreamed so anyone can watch from the link on the website or by clicking here.
If you cannot join that evening, but want to share your thoughts, please send an email with your hopes to email@example.com and your ideas will be included. The BOE President, Kimberly Coyne, will try to read them aloud if there is time.
Intro to ClassLink Change
Starting on February 8, 2021, students in grades five (5) through twelve (12) will start using ClassLink. ClassLink provides a Single Sign On (SSO) tool and “landing page” on Chromebooks which will be pre-populated (by grade) with relevant links for school resources. Students using personal devices will also have the ability to use ClassLink.
Logging into ClassLink also provides the ability to track attendance so we will no longer need to use Operoo for daily attendance after February 5, 2021.
Thank you for your patience and continued support as we transition to ClassLink.
