Dear Gladiator Families,
Hello Gladiator Nation!!
What an exciting week!! We had basketball games, clubs, and all sorts of fun going on. I was able to visit many classrooms this week and see everything from guided reading of literature, to students learning about the periodic table!! We were also able to make it out to the Walter Gerlach Livestock Show and Sale!! It was so great to be able to see our students display all their hard work. We were able to make it out to see our current and former students compete with their goats and pigs. We are so proud of all our students, and our winners! It was a great event to see our many of our families!
We had our interim testing this week. It was an opportunity to practice what it is like to do a "STAAR" test. Our biggest issue was students not remembering to bring their devices. As we move into our testing season later this year, please make sure students bring their devices with chargers to make our testing day run smoother.
Please continue to be mindful during morning drop off and afternoon pickup. Please do not make two lines in the front driveway. This completely impedes traffic if we every need to have an emergency vehicle access the campus. Please do not park in the drop off lanes or pick up on the outside lanes. All of these actions cause our traffic to back up. Please do not pick up on Tall Heights or access our bus loop before or after school. We have a great deal of students walking to get off or get on buses and that causes a serious safety hazard. Please do not drop off or pick up on Kyle Seale. Not only is this a serious safety hazard, it is also unlawful to impede traffic this way. If we are all mindful of these things, we can get everyone to and from school in an efficient manner. We will do our best to monitor all these areas, but we only have one Police Office with many places that need attention.
We are sad to report Mr. Castillo will be departing campus on a new adventure. His last day was this Friday. We are forever grateful to Mr. Castillo for all he did for our campus and our students the last four year. He will be missed dearly. If you are interested in leaving something for Mr. Castillo as a "thank you" in our front office, we would be more than happy to deliver it to him for you. But in our typical Garcia fashion, we have already chosen a new high quality Assistant Principal!! Her name is Jennifer Christensen. She come to us from O'Connor HS and has a wealth of experience. We look forward to adding her officially to our staff in the coming weeks!
See district reminders about masks:
As we did last semester, NISD has enacted a Mask Mandate due to a surge in COVID metrics . We don't anticipate the mandate to last as long as last time (6 weeks) and will again monitor it week to week. Once metrics improve and the surge subsides, we will lift the mandate. Please be reminded that our rationale for masks has always been student safety, regardless of the legal or political opinions that exist.
We will continue to have extra masks in the front office should a student need one at anytime.
We have another major announcement. WE ARE THE BEST MIDDLE SCHOOL IN NISD according to US World and News Report! We always have known this, but now it's "Facebook official"! You can access the official story here: https://www.usnews.com/education/k12/middle-schools/texas/northside-independent-school-district-113050
We are so proud of our ranking and couldn't have done it, and continue to do it, without the support of our wonderful staff, students and community! Thank you! We can't wait to display our accomplishment proudly!
Fanny Pack Friday's have begun! We have had so much fun presenting this out to our students! Here is the official video link: https://youtu.be/fck37_v8IhU
