Reading Workshop
In Reading Workshop the maples continued to work on their craft in both small guided reading groups and shared reading lessons. We practiced getting our minds and mouths ready for tricky words, and finding words inside of words to help us read longer and stronger. The Maples also delved into story elements to identify the problem that the characters of the story had to solve.
Writing Workshop
In Writing Workshop this week the Maples began to put the finishing touches on their small moment stories. Maples learned how to add what people felt and thought in their stories. They also expanded their editing skills by adding punctuation marks and capitalization to their writings. Maples that felt their stories were ready to be published began to design book covers and about the author pages.
Math Workshop
In Math Workshop the Maples continued their exploration of 2d shapes. Students experimented with various ways to fill in outlines using pattern blocks and learned how shapes can be decomposed into smaller shapes. Maples also began to use ten frames to help them compose equations.
Integrated Unit
One, or three, of the highlights of this week was when the Maples had a chance to interview Lila, Adjowah and our 3rd grade helper from Elm, Bex. The interviews were a chance for the maples to find out more about the people in our community and how we all help here at Compass.
