Why Are We Here?
This evening will witness the first (hopefully of many) CSAGH Association meeting. Among other things, we will be celebrating God’s faithfulness to our organization over the last year. Do you remember what was happening a year ago? Our organization had just embarked on a journey that, if we are all honest, probably had us a bit scared. We did not know exactly what the Lord had in store for us.
Now, a year later, we can say with confidence, “God has been faithful.” As we stand one year removed from the acquisition that brought WSCA and HCS together, it is important we mark this occasion with praise to our God. In thinking about this moment, I was reminded of a moment in Israel’s history when Samuel took time to literally mark God’s faithfulness. The Israelites had just been through a very difficult time in their history, but God had once again proved He would not forsake His people. The Philistines had been defeated in battle and the ark had returned to Israel after being held hostage by the Philistines. Then, we read in I Samuel 7:12, “Samuel took a stone and set it up…and called its name Ebenezer; for he said, ‘Till now the LORD has helped us.’” Samuel refused to let that generation or future generations forget that it was only by the LORD’s help that Israel had made it to that point in their history.
This evening I hope you can join us at our association meeting as we raise an Ebenezer to God’s faithfulness to our organization. All we can say is, “Till now the LORD has helped us” and we pray that He continues to guide us forward. The old hymn “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” says it well, “Here I raise my Ebenezer, here by Thy great help I’ve come, and I hope by Thy good pleasure safely to arrive at home.”
