STEAM-U Learning Opportunities
Transforming PBL to EBL
Presented by the John Thomas School of Discovery (JTSD)
Facilitators: John Thomas School of Discovery Faculty
Project-Based Learning (PBL) is “all the buzz” and rightfully so. Well-crafted PBL offers great potential in engaging students in authentic, inquiry-driven, integrated, and collaborative projects that mirror our real life experiences. Crafting PBLs that bring to life all of the pieces required by leading organizations such as the Buck Institute for Education can be a challenging task, and can feel arduous at times when planning. See how the engineering-design process (Engineering-Based Learning/EBL) put forth by NASA and other leading science institutions may provide the prefect authentic roadmap for constructing engaging PBLs driven by science. See how our normal interaction with the world through scientific discovery and problem solving (engineering) may offer an unmatched standard for designing authentic PBL instruction that is natural and fluid when planning and implementing.
