Thank you, Parents and Guardians!
Parents,
We can't believe we are at the end of a school year already! We have had so much to celebrate, and we want to thank you all for your continuous support of our school and staff.
A huge heartfelt thank you to our PTSO Board Jamie Bowne, Laura Beth Rogers, Andrea Johnston, Skye Best, Stephanie Armstrong, Tammy Hawes, Jennifer Ryan, and Anna Richardson along with all of our PTSO members, committee chairs, and parent volunteers for your countless acts of service and kindness. You all have gone above and beyond to support our school and staff in so many ways. You've poured everything into our school and have led with a servant's heart. We are grateful, and our staff THANKS you from the bottom of our hearts! ❤️❤️❤️
For those who are moving on to their respective high schools, we will miss you - but we will be excited to follow our students' future successes. We know our Eagles will go on to do great things!
For our returning Eagles, we are looking forward to a wonderful school year beginning in August, and we will continue to post summer updates on our website and via email to keep our families informed of upcoming news and events.
We hope our families have a safe and happy summer!
Last Week Reminders
Report Cards: Parents and students can view final grading reports via Infinite Campus Parent and Student Portals on June 1. If a paper copy is needed, parents can call or email the registrar, Alecia Bruce at alecia.bruce@cowetaschools.net.
Georgia Milestones Reports: We hope to have complete scores back by the end of the week so reports can go home with students before the end of the school year. If there is a delay, we will notify our parents/guardians along with the plan for distributing them.
Summer School: Students who fail two or more subjects are eligible for Summer School to earn promotion to the next grade level. You can view Summer School information here.
Chromebooks: All students will keep their Chromebooks over the summer until they return to school in August. If your student will not be returning to a Coweta County school next year, he/she should return both the Chromebook and charger to Mrs. Pitts in the media center.
Medication in the Clinic: Parents will need to pick up any medication their child has in the clinic by the last day of school. The school will be unable to keep any medication in the school over the summer. Anything not picked up by 4 PM on Friday, May 26th will be disposed of.
Meal Charges: Any charges or outstanding meal balances should be paid by in full by Friday, May 25th. Contact café manager, Stefanie Slayton, if you have any questions about your child's account.
Library Books: All books or materials checked out of the media center were due May 19th. Please have your student check to ensure all books have been returned by Friday.
Lost and Found: If your child is missing an item, please have him/her check our lost and found table in the cafeteria before this Friday.
Athletics and Summer Practices: Summer conditioning for athletics will be announced on our website and school calendar. Check frequently for updates over the summer break. All students must have a current physical, along with accompanying paperwork on file to participate.
Yearbooks: Our yearbooks are here! They will be distributed this week by their homeroom teachers. We do have extras for those who would like to purchase one (while they last). The cost is $50.00 and should be paid to bookkeeper Danielle Mattera. (Make checks out to Madras Middle School).
Register for Band, Chorus, or Guitar: If your child would like to take one of our yearlong music classes, you can register here.
Senior Walk: Madras alumni are invited to walk the halls of the Nest on May 24th at 8:30 so our students and staff can celebrate their huge accomplishment. Please see details below.
Summer Newsletter: Before August, one more newsletter will be sent out in June with summer information including summer conditioning and practice dates for athletics.
Thank you to our students and music directors for amazing spring concerts!

Thank you so much for your support of our Battle of the Books ice cream float fundraiser! If you donated items, we truly appreciate you. We raised over $650.00 for our Battle of the Books program. These funds help us to purchase books, trophies, medals and other prizes for our program. A special thank you to our PTSO parents and grandparents who volunteered their time to help. It was a great day!
End of Year Reminders:
We did not charge any overdue fines again this school year. However, please check with your student to find out if he/she has lost a book. We have many books that are overdue from the year. It is important to have all of these items taken care of as quickly as possible before the end of the year. If your student cannot locate their lost book, they can pay to replace it. Students have been receiving overdue notices from their homeroom teacher and their ELA teacher. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you for your support of our Library Media Center at Madras Middle School this year!

In May, we celebrate National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. Keep reading for ideas about celebrating during this month at home.
Bust out those hula hoops and jump ropes and compete with your family members for the longest hoop record or best jump rope trick! These may not be official sports, but they’re a great way to get moving and have fun with your family!
Catching a little TV? Not a problem! Participate with your family and see if you can hold a plank for an entire commercial break or spend the breaks running in place for a quick and fun family workout.
Compete with your family in an Olympic Style event! Who can run the fastest sprint or jump the furthest?
Try a new sport together! Frisbee, badminton, croquet and bocce ball are all easy sports to learn and play in your yard. (Actionforhealthykids.org)
A New York Times article about adolescent physical activity states: “Moderate activity of any kind, getting out and doing something, is associated with improvements, lower levels of depressive symptoms, lower levels of anxiety, and better well-being…”
It is important for our emotions and brain to move our body! How are you celebrating physical fitness and sports this month?
We can’t believe it is the last week of school! We are so grateful we got to spend another school year with all of our Eagle Families at Madras. Thank you so much for helping us support your students this year. This summer, we hope you will encourage your students to continue to take opportunities to learn, grow, recharge, and relax.
We are so excited to meet our 6th grade Eagles next year! Good luck and congratulations to our 8th grade students who are moving on to high school! I hope you all have a safe, happy, and healthy summer break. See you next year!

No Meal Charges After May 1st
Dear Parents,
Beginning May 1st, students will not be permitted to charge meals in the cafeteria. We recommend that you pay for all meals in advance. The cost of lunch is $3.05 and the cost of breakfast is $1.00. Extra milk or juice is $.50. Advance payment for lunch for the month of May is $48.80 (16 days), and advance payment for breakfast is $16.00. If your child’s account reaches a negative balance (or is currently a negative balance), he/she will receive an alternate meal of a sandwich and milk with fruit and vegetable choices.
We strongly urge you to try using MealpayPlus®. MealpayPlus® provides an easy-to-use, efficient way to make payments quickly and securely anytime using a simple Internet connection. You can say goodbye to the hassles of sending in multiple checks to multiple locations for multiple students. It can all be done with one payment on MealpayPlus. MealpayPlus also allows the ability to receive free low balance emails and in most cases view the purchases made in the cafeteria online. Information can be found at: Mealpay Plus Info.
In order to provide you with a friendly reminder, we are letting students know if they owe money as they come through the breakfast/lunch line. If you have a question about your child’s account, please check Infinite Campus Parent Portal (keep in mind that Infinite Campus may be a day behind), or call the cafeteria at (770) 254-2816 or email me at Stefanie.Slayton@cowetaschools.net
Please remember that the school nutrition program is self-supporting and outstanding balances negatively impact our school.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Sincerely,
Stefanie Slayton
Cafeteria Manager

Dropping Off Items for Your Child During the School Day
Dropping off Lunches or Medication: If a student forgets a lunch at home, parents may drop it off at the front office, and students will be called to pick up their lunch at the beginning of their scheduled lunch time. If a student needs medication, it can be dropped off at any time for the school nurse.
Dropping off Other Items:
Any other item dropped off for students during the school day may be picked up after school. Instruction will not be interrupted for students to pick up items during class. This includes forgotten homework, Chromebooks, shoes for PE, projects, etc. Students are responsible for bringing needed materials to class daily. If these items are brought to school during the day, we are happy to make an announcement at the end of the day for your child to pick them up in the front office.
Student Cellphones and Electronics
Cell phones and Smartwatches may not be used during the instructional day and must be turned off and put away at all times. Students are permitted to use a phone in the front office during school hours for emergencies or for illness. Students should not use a cell phone or smartwatch to call home or text when sick. Any student who is ill should go through the Madras clinic. The school nurse will call parents directly. Calling home for homework, a school project, or to make arrangements to attend an after school event that wasn't previously arranged ties up phone lines and is not permitted. Students may call home if:
- There is a transportation issue,
- Lunch or lunch money is needed,
- There is a dress code issue.
- The student is sick or needs medication (must call from the clinic under the nurse's supervision).
We appreciate your help in keeping interruptions to a minimum.
Monitoring Progress, Grades, Assignments, and Attendance
Student Portal
Students will be assigned a login for Student Portal which will allow them to regularly monitor their grades and assignments. Once logged on the first time, they will be prompted to change their password. Students should keep this in a secure location and should never share the password with others.
Parent Portal
Parent Portal provides access for parents to view students' attendance, grades, schedules, lunch balances, and other useful information. It also allows teachers to communicate with parents via the portal. You can enroll HERE, (directions) If you have questions about your portal account or are having trouble logging in, please contact Student Information Services by emailing infinitecampusportal@cowetaschools.net.
