Pine Run: It's Time to Revisit S.O.A.R!
Parents and Guardians,
Coming to school should be a positive experience. While we encounter many smiling faces each morning, I know that not all students will skip through the front doors enthusiastically each day. I have three school-aged children and I know how hard it can be to get them out the door some days. However, Pine Run should be a place where students want to be, a place that each individual can feel respected and cared for.In recent weeks we have seen a concerning increase in disrespectful and physical behavior among our students. Some of you may have heard from teachers, our counselor, or me. While some of you have heard this from your own children.
In a letter I sent at the start of the year, I described our positive approach to recognizing and reinforcing appropriate behavior, following our five character traits S.O.A.R: Safe, Organized, Accepting, Responsibility, and Respect. This is evident each week in our S.O.A.R Feather winner section of the Post and each month in our S.O.A.R class winner section. The letter also described the system we have created to support students as they review and reflect upon the choices they make, acting in a manner inconsistent with our character traits. I shared with you the Pine Run Behavior Notice. Behavior Notices are used as an opportunity for student reflection. This opportunity allows the teacher, support staff, student, and parent to all be informed of the behavior and what the student will do differently next time. Most often no further disciplinary action is taken. Upon the third behavior notice, a student is referred to the office. In some instances, when there is a more serious infraction a student will be sent to the office for immediate reflection and consequence.
The point of all this is simple, students can't learn when they are hurt physically or emotionally and teachers can't teach when there are disruptions and disagreements to resolve. The important work we do with students is greatly impacted by misbehavior and poor choices. The entire staff here at Pine Run works to provide a strong academic environment, where students of all capabilities can safely learn and grow. Our hope is that by working together as one community we can encourage our children to be the best they can be in the classroom, while at lunch and recess, and while in the halls. All adults have taken on the charge to model the behavior we would like to see in our students, all have the ability to talk with students about behavior.
WE ARE ONE, one school, one community, one team.
I hope you will continue to celebrate the positives with us. I also ask that you take a moment to talk with your children about S.O.A.R focusing on the traits of respect and responsibility in school, and our community as a whole. I know we can continue to build a healthy, safe, and kind learning environment where all students are ready to learn.
Thank you for your continued support,
Stacey Pedersen

“Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
― Mark Twain
This quote may optimize the wish that many parents have for their children’s future. Some of you may be fortunate enough to feel that way about your own career. Finding that ideal job is the challenge and for our children it is often a matter of “trying things on” to see what fits. The link below shares interesting looks at how people feel about the work they do. Although many of the videos may be more appropriate for older students, some could be fun for the younger ones such as Kite Designer or Experimental Film and Stop Motion Animator.
Perhaps take a few minutes over the upcoming school break and watch some of these with your sons and daughters. Ask them what they think, and listen. You both may learn something about “a job you enjoy doing.”

All students, staff members, and visitors are required to wear face coverings while inside our school building and on school buses. This was a result of the Order of the Acting Secretary and the new Health and Safety Plan, which was approved by the CBSD Board of Education on August 31, 2021.
Individuals, including students, staff, parents, and all visitors, who wish to request a mask exception must carefully review and submit the Central Bucks School District’s face covering exemption form. NO other form will be accepted for reason of exemption from the face-covering order. Please send the signed hard copy form to school with your child if they will not be wearing a mask.
I encourage all families to have a conversation with their child around the topic of face coverings. Each child should understand proper mask-wearing behaviors, as well as your family's personal expectations. My hope is that it will ensure students are following the directive of their parents while also following the procedures and guidelines put in place for all.
Please know teachers and staff will provide gentle reminders, to those students wearing masks, to keep them fitted correctly, covering the mouth and nose and not under their chin.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we move forward.
