Principal's Message

Thank you for the outstanding turnout at our Back to School Parent Information Night! It was so great to see you all and we are very grateful for your partnership with us!

School meal menus can be found on our website at https://gres.usd458.org/ where you can see along the top ribbon, "LUNCH MENU."

For parents who don't have a copy of the ABCD schedule, there is one attached to this email. Your child's teacher can provide you with the schedule of which specials are on which day for that class.

Parents of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders interested in StuCo - please note that students will now give their speeches on Tuesday, Sept. 6 instead of Thursday, Sept. 1st.

Tuesday is the last day to order your spirit wear! See the flyer below to place your order. As a reminder, our PTO sells trash bags throughout the school year so we have them stocked for you when you need more.

GRE has taken on Gardening!

GRE is sprouting something new this year! We are partnering with the Broxterman family and KCCG (Kansas City Community Gardens) to allow students the opportunity to apply classroom academics to the real world through gardening. We have built two new raised gardening beds and are in the process of planting beans, lettuce, cilantro, broccoli, arugula, beats, and carrots for the fall harvest. Students will engage in cross-curricular activities as they watch the garden grow. Students will get to enjoy the bounty of the harvest as we prepare some flavorful dishes. In addition to making recipes, the students will also donate some produce to local food pantries as part of our school's civic engagement goal. The future vision for this new endeavor is to create additional garden beds and continue to grow as a school.

Mrs. Clanton's class got to kick this off this week with planting beans!

BLAS Food Program

The Basehor-Linwood Assistance Services (BLAS) team is providing a food program for families in need. Students who are signed up for the ‘BackPack’ program will receive a weekly bag with a variety of food inside. BLAS will deliver the ‘BackPacks’ to your child’s school towards the end of each week to be distributed by school staff into the child’s backpack. This program is funded solely through donations and the number of participants is limited based on the donations received. There are no costs to participate in the program for the child, parent/guardian, or school. If you are interested in participating in this program, please contact the counselor, Mrs. Zimmerschied. You can send an email to jzimmerschied@usd458.org or call the school line at 913-724-3536 ext. 1403.
