PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Dear Students, Faculty, and Parents,
I hope you all had a wonderful long Labor Day weekend!
FSA COMMUNITY RAISED $8,389.27 FOR HURRICANE HARVEY VICTIMS
I would like to take a moment and thank our FSA community for coming together to help Hurricane Harvey victims last Friday. In just 24 hours, we have raised a total of $8,389.27. Thank you for coming together in such a short time and supporting a great cause. As announced earlier, half of the money will be given to Humane Society for animals affected by Harvey and the other half will be given to RedCross for Hurricane Harvey victims. I want to give a very special thanks to Enes Kanter for personally donating $25,000 and also visiting our school on Friday to give a boost to our campaign. Enes was kind to announce the total collected amount to all FSA students in the gym today during the teachers against students basketball game.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR VOLLEYBALL TEAM!
Our girls volleyball team is getting stronger each and every day. Our team won 3 - 0 against Brandon Hall Academy last Thursday! Congratulations to FSA Volleyball Team students and coaches for another win. Way to go!
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR CROSS COUNTRY TEAM
Congratulations to our Cross Country team for completing their 1st XC meet in Macon over the weekend! The weather was great, the children were full of excitement, and the parents brought great snacks! Also, big congratulations to Riya Patel who came in 10th place!
GREAT PARTICIPATION TO CURRICULUM NIGHT!
It was lovely seeing everyone last week during our Curriculum Nights! We always enjoy getting to spend time with our parents! We had a very fun and exciting end to our week on Friday when we were visited by Enes Kanter, power forward for the Oklahoma City Thunder! He spoke to our students about his Light Foundation and about all of the efforts being done to raise awareness and money for Hurricane Harvey victims.

CLUBS of the week
Music Composition
This club is open to students of all levels of musical ability. We will examine aspects of musical pieces such as tempo, melody, harmony, rhythm, and more. We will use a wide range of musical styles in our study, from pop songs to classical pieces. Each student will have chances to create their own pieces, to perform them if they play an instrument, and to write them down in musical notation. Come join us in our study of how beautiful music works! Music Composition meets every Monday.
-Mr. Proctor
Public Speaking and Debate
Ms. Crockett is leading a great group of middle and high school orators. In the first weeks students had to deliver an introductory speech to their classmates. Classmates gave encouraging and critical feedback. Students then learned about the importance of voice, poise, life, eye contact, gestures, and pace. This week students will hone their public speaking further in a debate over whether American farms should cultivate GM crops!
Public Speaking and Debate meets every Thursday.
Win a free month of smart lunches!
Order lunches now at www.smartlunches.com or view the September calendar menu below:
Food Allergies
- Bringing nuts to school is strongly discouraged. However, if a nut item will be brought to school, please notify your child's teacher in advance.
- A reserved table in the cafeteria is available for all students with food allergies. In particular no nuts are allowed in this area. This table will be wiped down separately from other cafeteria areas, too.
- Kid-friendly allergy signs will be posted to the outside right side of the classroom door to let visitors and substitute teachers know this is an allergy sensitive classroom.
- Any outside treats should not contain peanuts or peanut products due to the allergies of some students. A list of ingredients should be provided.
GRANDPARENTS DAY
At Fulton Science Academy, we know the important role grandparents play in our student's lives. As such, we like inviting our grandparents to come and enjoy a special day here at FSA, along with their grandchildren.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 10
1 p.m. - Brief School Tour
1:20 p.m. - Luncheon
The purpose of this special program is three-fold:
- To honor grandparents;
- To give grandparents an opportunity to get more information about their grandchildren’s school; and
- To help children become aware of the strength, information and guidance older people can offer.
We encourage students, parents, and grandparents to come together to celebrate!
If you wish to attend our special Grandparents Gathering, please send an e-mail to Mrs. Condon at rcondon@fultonscienceacademy.org by Thursday, September 7, 2017, and let us know how many will attend from your family so that we can plan accordingly.
We hope to see you!

Character Ed Trait for September is Self Control
Self-Control is “knowing you can, but deciding you won’t”.
Controlling your body and words can be difficult when you are feeling emotional. Having self-control means you are able to act in an calm way, when your impulse is to react emotionally. Self- Control also means staying quiet, when you wish you speak. This character trait is one of the most difficult to master, because it requires managing your behavior.
-Mrs. Cantrell
Home Visits - A Fun Way to meet your teachers!
Home visits are a casual way for your child to spend time with his/her teacher in the comfort of their home. Teachers enjoy having a chance to see children in this comfortable environment, doing whatever makes them most happy and spend time with children and their parents outside of a regular school day.
Simply email junal@fultonscienceacademy.org with some suggested dates/times, as well as your students' name(s) and homeroom assignments. Ms. Unal will be in touch to confirm final details.
